My husband and I recently took our 2 toddlers (3yo and 4yo) to Compass Point over the Canadian Thanksgiving Weekend. It was exactly as the reviews deemed it to be.

This is a boutque hotel - small, private, simple. Taxi from the airport was 10 minutes max and check-in was fast and easy. The rooms were exactly as pictured.

Kids had a great time playing on the small beach area down by the dock and swimming in the kiddie 3 foot deep pool and floating in the adjoining 7 foot deep adult pool. No need to supplement your towel, you get huge, white, fluffy towels at the front desk. At bedtime, we fell asleep watching borrowed DVDs from the front desk (no charge). Outside of that, not much else for the kiddies.

The resort location is remote, nothing is within walking distance. We went to Atlantis one day and the Ardastra Gardens the next. Atlantis was the real zoo. Huge architectural structures, merchandising out your ears, smoking indoors, large resort requiring tons of walking with stairs (not stroller friendly), etc. Reminded us of Vegas in the Bahamas. Great day trip but not vacation for parents with toddlers. Ardastra Gardens is a small zoo, very open concept, and felt like a nature walk with the kiddies. They enjoyed being so physically close to flamingos, peacocks, and a large Vietnamese pot-bellied pig walking the grounds. They have a simple flamingo show and a time you can feed the birds. Very laid back, there were about 4 other people in the zoo.

We ate all our delicious meals at Compass Point. The food was simple resort fare, nice portions, and average-priced (pasta $20, appetizers $8). Best of all, they delivered the food to wherever we felt like eating that day - poolside, hut, or dining area. Actually quite good for resort dining.

No worries if the forecast calls for showers. Tropical showers are light and short-lived. Resort provides you with an umbrella. Can get quite windy so bring a light jacket.

Compass Point is probably not a good place for people looking for "action" or "excitement". This is a great place for someone looking to relax, unwind, and listen to the surf. Overall, great vacation.

We have been going to Compass Point since it first opened in 1996. All these years it has retained the qualities that we first loved about it. It is go-for-the--weekend convenient to New York, minutes from the airport but secluded, small, beautiful, with a friendly staff and great food. People come from all over the island just to have dinner there. Every room is unique and most have views of the ocean if they are not right on it. With the breeze, there's no need for air-conditioning, although they have it now. Generally we avoid telling people about Compass Point because it can be hard to get reservations--some rooms are booked a year in advance by departing guests (and you know who we mean.) Don't go if you're looking for early AM nightlife--unless you plan to take sidetrips. The hotel is best for relaxed privacy, reclining with a rum punch, rack of lamb from room service, or hobnobbing with the rays out on the reef.

Our getaway at Compass Point was exactly what we were looking for. The only problem....we didn't stay longer! Only 5 days, could've definitely enjoyed a couple extra nights.

While it's back to work after vacationing stateside and a side trip to Nassau, it's been hard not daydreaming of the wonderful time we spent in the Bahamas at Compass Point. Most of our time was spent laying by the pool (wish it was bigger, though) or sipping cocktails at the oceanfront bar, snorkelling and eating dinner on our oceanfront balcony. The views are amazing and the oceanfront bungalow is highly recommended, although the ocean view rooms are still just yards away from the water too!

Compass Point is located just a short drive from the airport and within minutes of landing you’ll be in your swimsuit and settling down into paradise. As a small resort, it’s extremely peaceful and the service is fantastic, they even get to know you by name. All the staff were always so helpful and friendly, we really felt at home.

We went into downtown the second day and over to Atlantis to eat dinner, but it wasn’t anything special. After that we were completely satisfied with spending the rest of our short vacation at Compass Point. We ate most of our meals at the resort which were great and a wide variety on the menu, never had a problem. They arranged dinner for us on the pier one night and also brought us dinner to our balcony on another.

We also enjoyed our lunch at the Poop Deck in Sandyport and dinner at Villagio which are just about a 10 minute drive.

We'll definitely be back one day!

  • Liked — The oceanfront bungalows with amazing views and restaurant.
  • Disliked — The pool could've been larger.

My girlfriend and I arrived with high expectations and Compass Point failed to deliver. The room is unique, the ocean view is spectacular and the bathroom works quite well...if you're 10 years old. It's way too narrow and cramped. The pool comes complete with broken tiles and our first day was spent trying to ignore native Bahamian kids jumping onto inflatable rafts mimicing professional wrestlers. I guess it would have been nice had we been staying at Disney Land. Ordering food and drinks poolside is not possible. Not a big deal, of course, except for the wait staff resting comfortably 20 feet from the pool and carrying on as if you're not there. However, perhaps the staff is smarter than we initially gave it credit for since the food is terrible. If you have to eat one meal at Compass Point may I suggest breakfast. The omelet is fine. Ultimately, if you're looking to get away for a weekend, Compass Point is suitable. Anything over 1-2 nights is a bad decision. Always eat elsewhere.
