“OK. But don't expect too much”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 1, 2013

This is a nice diversion from the tourist traps and busy downtown.
The building is beautiful. The price was OK. But the artwork was a bit disappointing.
Somewhat small collection of art. And we found that nearly 50% of the artwork depicts an apparent dark historic racial struggle. Not exactly what I'd expect to see for a National Art Gallery.

“Thank heavens for the AC and the great art.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 12, 2013

A lot of slavery-focused art, but it was beautiful. After a little walk up a relatively steep hill, it was wonderful to be greeted by air conditioning. There are several floors to the gallery, and much to be seen. If you like local art, you'll love seeing this and it's definitely worth the few dollars that it costs to get in. There are washrooms and a small gift store as well. It was nice, and I'd go back again.

“Lovely art. Perfect presentation”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 12, 2013

A small, but very carefully presented collection of Bahamanian art and artisans. The presentation is exceptional. The biographical information provided on the artists themselves is well developed. The museum is located in an historic mansion reinforcing the exhibts themselves.

“A beautiful building, and a great view, plus there's Art!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 26, 2013

There is no admission price. There were some very interesting works on display in the main gallery. The upstairs gallery was undergoing a change, but it was worth going up just for the view. We could imagine what it was like living in this repurposed house from the wraparound veranda, with the cool breeze from the East. If you visit, note that there is also a new distillery just a block to the west housed in an old hotel that has free tours (no free samples), but they also have some interesting facts, and it's a nice way to prepare for going back down the hill.

“Local and International Art”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 22, 2013

We were fortunate to explore this classy museum when it was free of visitors. It has a solid permanent collection augmented by temporary installations and shows all under the roof of an historic hilltop mansion. The artwork runs the gamut from pieces that are more folkart to those of distinguished Bahaman artists both traditional and non-objective. There was ample time to ponder each painting or sculpture in a beautiful and dignified space. The gift shop offered books, jewelry, postcards and items of clothing. Although there was a fee for the museum, no one was around to collect it (so we just left it at the desk.)
