Alistair Stevenson was our tour guide and all I can say is WOW!! He was friendly and kept us engaged during the entire tour. If we come back to the Bahamas, we are definitely looking him us to give us another tour.

“A gem in Nassau”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 17, 2013

This is a very exciting art gallery, with some wonderfully innovative pieces. Beware - it is all modern art, with some so "modern" as to be bewildering. However, there were so many I wanted to take home, and would have done so had they been on sale. It is set in an old estate home, so it's a cozy environment. One of the exhibits, Kingdom Come, was enticing in it's emotional presentation, offering interactive pieces and sweeping murals. Another was a series of photos showing "real Bahamians" of all diversity and color. Add to that the death-mask lamps! Overall, each room offered engaging art that was stimulating. Exactly what a national gallery should be! Get off the beach, and out of the shops and go!

“Local art in a Historic Building”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 19, 2013

I walked up to the Nat'l Art Gallery on a sunny day. The local art was not unusual of anything local in particular. I did really enjoy going outside on the upstairs balcony and took in the terrific view. I did see a silent film there, which was an art exhibit, depicting various photos of the island of New Providence. The film showed stray dogs, abandoned buildings, destroyed lots (few palm trees), trash everywhere, monsterous new resorts being built, etc. This film, while very depressing, definitely depicted the reality of the island and what happens when a culture is constantly ravished by outsiders over centuries: it's current depressing state. Overall, I am glad I went and supported the gallery but was hoping to see more art unique to New Providence.

“You Must See”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 8, 2013

If you love art the national art museum of the Bahamas is an excellent value and offers some wonderful exhibits. It is only five dollars and is well worth visiting the museum for an hour or so. Also, it is right down the street from the Gray Cliff, so if you appreciate a good cigar and a nice dinner you should visit the museum before your evening at the Gray Cliff.

“Nice exhibit by Bahamian artists”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 1, 2013

Nice exhibit by Bahamian artists. Very nice building. Good view from the veranda. Small exhibit. What an art critic would call folk art.
