“A Kind Man, Comfortable Breeze, and Fine Cuisine -- There is a reason for the photo of the dog too!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 17, 2013

We didn't stay at the B & B, but wanted to be sure to go for a meal. We walked up from Compass Point where we were staying. I had read about the dog who will walk you to and from the beach, but that was from an old review. We walked what is a bit of a dodgy road with lots of blind turns and not much shoulder and were all of a sudden greeted by our sentinel (see picture). He walked us all the way along the road and up the hill. He then turned, gave us a glance of "my work is done here," and headed back down the hill. A really cool experience -- he nipped at the cars as they drove by as if to ward off pesky flies. We were greeted by Carlin, one of the nicest men, with one of the warmest smiles you could ever meet. A positive person who displays great kindness and genuine hospitality. We really loved the view from the porch where we had our meal. The menu was set and Carlin informed us that he and the Chef, Tony, were new to the place and took it on to do something "special." With years in the industry, you can tell that Carlin really treats each guest as if they are a longtime friend. We enjoyed some great soul music, conversation, wine, views, and food. My fiance started with the Conch Chowder, with some nice lingering heat. I had the salad with one of the best dressings I've ever had (Carlin said a guest from Italy days earlier asked him to bottle it, and so did I). We then enjoyed the Curry Chicken and Grouper with some of the best Jasmine rice. Tiaramasu and Ice cream for desert. The night was most enjoyable and we look forward to seeing Carlin again -- he's a true Ambassador for the Inn and for the Islands of the Bahamas -- thanks Tony & Carlin!

We had a lovely night here because the staff were helpful and the room was upgrades to a suite at no extra cost
Our room was excellent and the hotel interesting as its cut into the rock. This could prove a problem with guest who can't carry their bags up the first set of stairs.

Having previously stayed at Wyndhams during airport layovers whilst travelling to the Out Islands, I was really doubting there was anywhere like this on New Providence. Anyone travelling away from the island is probably going to a peaceful destination...and the process of staying in
monstrosities such as Wyndhams or any of the other hotels on the 'strip' is certainly a tad demoralising! 'Stone's Throw', on the other hand, is perfect; creating a much better impression of The Bahamas for someone who has never travelled there before.

The B&B is literally situated a stone's throw from the airport. It is a charming colonial house with a lush garden and pool. The climb up to the main building is quite steep, but there is help with the bags if you call. The staff are freindly and helpful, with plenty of ideas for food, etc. Rooms are clean and a little quaint, ours having ahatch through to the bathroom, if you wanted an open plan effect! The area is quiet...just right for a relaxing evening after a long flight. In the owner provided a free shuttle to the airport (just tip the driver as you see fit)!

We will be staying again on our next Bahamas trip.

We loved this B&B. Perfect for a short getaway. We stayed on the top floor and the room was very large with great ocean breezes.
Staff is wonderful and breakfast is cooked to order each morning.

Insider tip: if you are looking for a great beach, head over to Clifton Heritage National Park and walk towards Flipper Beach or the other private beaches in the park. CHP is about 10 minutes from ASTA. There are 2 entrances to the park, Flipper beach is about 500 yards from the main entrance. If you start at Jaws beach, walk about 1/4 mile around the point ot he 1st secluded area or walk a full mile to Flipper beach.

Insider tip: Try the lobster at Compass Point

How can such a nice place with nice people and a great atmosphere disappoint? Its in a single word - Service. Face to face, personal service such as breakfast service or the servicing of rooms was perfect. Friendly people keen to see that their guests have the best experience that they can. How this aligns with water leaking through the bathroom ceiling for three days is hard to understand. Not just water, the soiled water! No urgency to fix it and seemingly no skills to do so either. What a disappointment.

Surprisingly there was no tarrif for the honesty bar, make a note of what you have taken and then sometime later you might find out what it cost - or you might just find it on your bill. Relaxed yes...but too relaxed for comfort.

This place could be so good!

Room Tip: Select a room with a balcony and sea views, but without soiled shower water draining through the bat...

A very charming Bed and breakfast in Nassau close to the airport and snuggled on a high cliff overlooking the beautiful blue water of the Bahamas. If you are looking for a nice quiet resort away from the excitement and crowds of Atlantis this is the place. It is very close to many local restaurants and walking distance from Compass point beach resort where you can dine and watch a beautiful sunset which happens on this end of the island .A nice selection of cold breakfast items and freshly cooked eggs and pancakes is available. We are going back ASAP.

Room Tip: The ocean view rooms have a large well appointed balcony with beautiful views of the water and reefs...

My husband and I were looking for a less touristy Bahamas experience for a short 4 day getaway, and we came across ASTA Bed and Breakfast. We stayed in the Island View Room 5.

There are things we loved about the place: the people, not far from Stuarts Cove diving, good Island and Ocean views from a cliff, and the food (breakfast and lunch were both great, we didn't get to try the dinner since the chef was not there the nights we stayed). We had a wonderful dinner a short walk away at Compass Point Resteurant (great lobster and conch). The walk was maybe 15minutes and we enjoyed taking in a local feel of the Island. We did make a friend, a dog names Marley, who would escort us around. No sidewalks along the rocky coast, however, not a problem during the day (in the evenings we took a cab back). If you like shopping it's far from mall areas unless you have a car. The sandy beach is a bit of a walk as well, but not bad. People posted about prices being high, they are simply standard, and as far as dinner at Compass you get large portions.

Things we didn't like about ASTA, and the reason for our rating:

Prior to arrival we requested hypoallergenic bedding, upon arrival when Harriet was showing us up to our room she said she didn't know if they were or not...we never complain so we decided to just let it be. Upon settling in we noticed dirt and stains all over the sheets, especially the bed skirt. Pillows were stained and yellow as well...all we really wanted was what most want when they check in to relax: a fresh, clean, airy room, but I especially, felt very uncomfortable because of this.

Room 5 has a shower but no tub. The curtain was falling apart and stained. The view was nice because you get a side view of the ocean and an amazin breeze from the joint wrap around balcony...that is until you smell cigarette smoke and find tons of Marlboro brand cigarette butts right outside your balcony door...

Another thing that was disappointing was that the pool was VERY cold...it would be nice if they invested in heating it for the guests since the beach isn't conviently located. The grounds were nice, and many beautiful trees were in bloom, however, more landscaping by the pool area would have been nice.

Overall, ok for a short trip...needs upgrading though for sure...Maybe avoid room 5? Good scuba diving, and we love the friendly Bahamas residents!
