First the good. The buffet was excellent and staff was very friendly. It is crazy that they do not have a tea or coffee station, On some days you had to wait to be seated then wait again for hot beverages. They should change this policy. On our third night, I could not get bottle water anywhere which was included in the meal plan. The reason as i was told was that management removed it off the meal plan. You do this after people already paid for this !!! Then two days later the water appeared !! How about telling the guests,we ran out. I believe all the restaurants should be open every night,not if one is open the other closed. We had to eat the first 3 nights at the Italian Rest because we could not get a reservation any place else.I had a great time at the pool with the girls doing zumba, they made the pool fun. Yes, the pool edges need some work,I hope when the new hotel opens up ,Melia will do some cosmetic work. The male singer in the lobby was great, his voice was very enjoyable. We had room 968,great views,but the room did smell of smoke. I dont know if it was due to the construction crew who had been working in a associate door next to us or it was coming in from the air duct. My husband has asthma and at times he could not breathe.I notified guest relations before i left that we were celebrating our birthdays and anniversary and while I was there, they promised to send up strawberrys,cookies and a bottle of white wine.. We did get cookies,with a note with someone else s name on the card and never did see a bottle of wine. In the room,there was a coffee maker,but i had to keep calling or going into lobby to ask for creamers. This should be stocked everyday. Another thing, there is no booklet to tell you about the phone, how do you get the lobby, security, nothing,, I didnt like this one bit. They need to vacum the rooms everyday and the rugs out in the hall. This is not being done. I saw a cookie sit on the rug for 3 days on the 9th floor.. The day we were leaving, the rug was vacuumed.. I would go back,but i hope they do change some of their policys.

Great time,but i wish staff would smile a little and not ignore you.I am easy to please and usually tip $5 or more at breakfast,lunch,dinner, maids and for drinks but staff are experts at ignoring the guests, so i couldnt tip very often. Food was great.Staff should go to Mexico for training.

We had a group of 18 mothers and teenage daughters and loved Melia! It was the perfect size resort and I have to say, the food was fantastic, far better than we expected with an all-inclusive! The staff was very courteous and helpful. Rates were extremely reasonable, especially if you join the Melia rewards program (It's free and was suggested by someone in reservations). Loved the restaurants and the lobby bar is fun either before or after dinner drink with some dancing. Will definitely visit again!

Room Tip: pool or ocean view rooms are best.

The lobby area was open and welcoming. We were directed to our rooms within minutes of registering. The Hotel staff were very helpful especially Elaine, housekeeper who kept our room stocked with towels and kept clean. Dominick Noel, housekeeping made sure our every request was accommodated. Gary, at the poolside bar made the best Mojito's and kept them flowing. Needless to say we had a great time and would come back again.
Overall the only negative would be the bathrooms which need remodeling and updated.

My husband and I went to the Melia from Jan 19 to Jan 25. We had the all-inclusive package.The property is beautiful and with a little tweaking to service levels it could be amazing.

The pros;
- The property is beautiful inside and outside the hotel

- The beach is clean and the water is beautiful and clear

- The food at all the restaurants was excellent (however many things on the breakfast buffet were cold, but you could get fresh omelets made so that made up for it)

-check in and check out for the level service was quick and easy and the staff at the level were always helpful and friendly.

-rooms were beautiful and very clean.
we stayed in room 720 and the view was amazing!

- we heard jack hammering for about 1 hour on one day, other than this we didn't see or hear any other construction going on at the hotel.

- we had a couple of maintenance
issues and someone was sent up right away to deal with them.

The cons;
- service at the restaurants were average on the best days and poor at other times. We didn't have a meal where you didn't have to hunt down the waiter for something.

-the entertainment staff at the main pool spent most of there time dancing with each other, rarely interacting with the guests.

- they played the same songs over and over again at the pool, one day the played the same Micheal Jackson song 5 times in the coarse of an afternoon, there was also a Spanish song that they played over and over again, something about chocolat? This got VERY annoying!

- the lobby bar is amazing and had some great entertainment but they stopped by 9:00 just when things started to pick up, it would be great if the entertainment went later.

Overall we had a great relaxing stay and like I said, with a little tweaking this place could be amazing.

We visited this place on a day pass, coming from the cruise ship (so we only used the amenities and not the hotel rooms).

Check in was easy, but the staff at the desk was not friendly or smiling. They acted as if they didn't want us there, but we decided to stay anyhow.

It was a raining day (off and on) but we still made use of the pools. The pools were very nice with waterfalls, landscaping around them, grotto's, tunnels and caves. Very beautiful. However, every time we turned around the staff was yelling about walking or sitting at certain places around the pool area. We definitely felt "unwelcomed" when we were there with several glares from the staff. There was only a handful of people at the pool area because of the weather and we sat under an area by the pool with a roof. The staff stared at us like we were not supposed to be there, would whisper and then look back and stare. We were told not to walk on the rocks that is a walkway in the pool under the cave area, although we seen staff walking on it.

The HUGE hot tub located in front of the pool was about the only thing that we were able to use that day because of it being a little bit chilly. It was dirty and did have a lot of sand in it.

The grounds were under renovations and they have a huge wall dividing the pool area completely from the beach/ocean area. We did not hear them doing any work that day and they appeared to be busy painting the wall blue that they put up with some mural instead of working on what was behind the wall to get it done. In order to get out to the beach, you had to walk all the way down to the end of the furthest building and out. Then that was the only way in. It may be finished now, I'm not sure.

The pool at the end had several cleaning hoses in it and was unusable. The hot tub in that area was ice cold and unusable as well.

The grounds concrete sidewalks were in need of repair with a lot of it flaking and coming apart. I'm not sure if this is on their list of "things to repair" during the renovations.

The beach was nice and the sand was raked clear, however we couldn't use the beach because we were told the waves were too high to go out in the water that day. Not the fault of the resort of course.

There are conveniently located bathrooms by the pool and they were clean.

The day passes did not include any food or drinks and before going here, we were told they had a food stand to purchase meals. There were not any open the day we were there and finally had to leave in order to go eat. If we wanted soda's, we had to take the elevator back up to the 2nd/main floor and purchase it from a vending machine.

The place did have free wifi and it did reach out by the pools.

All in all, the place was beautiful and has a lot of potential. However, for the amount of money they charge for a day pass and not including any food or drinks and no way to get any, I'm not sure I would return again. The unfriendly staff and stares making us feel uncomfortable would also be another factor in not returning.

Just returned from 5 nights at the Melia. Went all inclusive....unfortunately the food at the buffet was cold no matter what time of day we visited. Always had to get someone to heat our food in the microwave. Very disappointed in that. Made mention at least 4 times to the chef or a wait staff member. Nothing was done.
Room was okay but some flaws they could take care of, the hot water tap in the bathroom sink ran on for 20 minutes before maintenance appeared late one night and it happened the last morning we were there. The phone sometimes worked, sometime not. This may not be a problem for most visitors but we depend on the phone as we are visiting family, need to be in contact. The hook was off the wall in the bathroom, so they plastered over it but hid the hook in the corner....why not take it out of the room altogether? Make-up was smudged all over the bathroom wall and the room service menu was to say the least, the most disgusting thing to open and find!
This hotel is not what it use to be and I think I will have find a new place to stay.....sad :(
I love this stretch of beach
