“nice resort”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 10, 2012

very nice resort - rooms are large, beds comfy, everything clean. Every staff member we dealt with was wonderful and helpful. Only downside is that there are really no food options within walking distance (one Thai restaurant nearby). Weather was not the greatest for using the amenities included in the resort fee, but that certainly is not the fault of the hotel.

Room Tip: all rooms overlook pool and ocean, with balconies. Higher floors have better views

“Overpromised, Underdelivered”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed December 9, 2012 via mobile

My husband and I were photographing a wedding at this Sheraton, and stayed for 4 nights.

The service: hit or miss. The staff was either very friendly, or extremely rude. The wedding coordinator was especially under-qualified to be managing a wedding! He literally brought the bride to tears at one point.

The food: HORRIBLE. Really, truly, bad. When I pay $18 for a chicken Caesar salad, I don't want to be handed a cardboard box full of iceberg lettuce and chewy, bland chicken, and a packet of room-temperature dressing with "monosodium glutamate" as the first ingredient. Nothing on the menu was as described. That burger with "aged white cheddar"? How about a slice of cold American cheese instead? Or how about the "spicy buffalo wings"? Totally smothered in some kind of sweet honey BBQ sauce. (The wings still managed to be good, at least.) I could write paragraphs about the terrible food, but I'll just leave it at "No."

The rooms: A bit on the older side, but very clean and comfortable. We booked a regular room, and still had a nice lobby-level view of the pool and ocean.

Housekeeping: We didn't want/need housekeeping to come by on the last day of our stay, so we left the "Do not disturb" sign on our door. Around 2, we were taking a nap and heard a knock. Before I could get to the door, it started opening and a housekeeper started coming in! No warning, no calling out "housekeeping!", just walking into our room. When she saw me she yelled "sorry!" and slammed the door in my face. I opened it back up and said, "Can I help you?" She just kept apologizing and said she had been "calling and calling" (no she had not!) and that we should have our room cleaned and why was the do not disturb sign still on our door? WEIRD. And more than a little unprofessional.

Grounds: The pools were lovely, though one was closed, and only one hot tub was working. The hot tub was toasty hot during the day, but barely warm at night. A woman at the front desk told us, "they turn the hot tub off at 7." How does that make any sense??? Also, the towel stand closed at 5:30 (sunset), with no way to get towels after that. If your beach towels weren't returned by then, the hotel charged a $20 fee, so we had to use our room's bath towels for any swimming or hot tub use after 5:30pm.

All in all, we had a relaxing stay -- it was a much-needed break from work! -- but I wouldn't go back, or recommend it to anyone else.

“Disappointing, don't dine there”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed December 9, 2012

We didn't stay at the hotel, but went to eat there for our last late lunch meal before flying home. We went to the Dolphin Grill, as it looked like it had a lovely sea view, and would be a final pleasant lunch. Unfortunately, the entire experience was really disappointing, and by far the worst meal we had whilst in the Bahamas.

The waitress was rather sulky and lacked customer service skills, I think she may have had an attitude and it felt like she a chip on her shoulder. Two out of four of the food orders came out wrong, and the waitress did not offer to get them changed, even though we noted the mistakes politely. All of the food came out lukewarm, and looked unappealing - despite being simple dishes like chicken wings, hot dogs and paninis, and costing around $90 for 4. The $5 lime juice was ok, but not worth the money. The chicken wings were rubbery and we don't think they were fresh. The only good food was the fries. The nearby toilets were poorly maintained and grubby.

To top it all off, the restaurant is plagued by seagulls which constantly swoop over the tables that are nearer the edge. One seagull swooped over our table, grabbed a chicken wing and knocked over various items in the process and none of the waiting staff came over to help. On the plus side, at least it didn't get wasted as we'd lost our appetite by then anyway!

Overall, it was a terrible, over-priced and completely underwhelming experience. On the plus side, we were grateful we had previously had really good food and service elsewhere over our two weeks, and that we had not chosen to stay at this hotel, if this is a sign of how the rest of the hotel operates. We had much better experiences at the restaurants in Atlantis (enjoyed Bimini Road, The Point, Virgils and Murrays in particular), in Nassau and the Fish Fry (Twin Brothers), where the staff are friendly and the food is many times better. We should have just had our last lunch at the West Wind II next door, which has a simpler set up, but looks freshly cooked and much better value for money.

Room Tip: Don't go to the Dolphin Grill, customer service is appalling.

“Disappointed”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 8, 2012

The room was nice but nothing special. No mini-bar, the in-room safe didn't work, no in-room movies. It is a hotel with multiple restaurants and a pool - it is not a resort. One reason we picked it was because it had multiple pools; when we got there we learned only one pool is heated. The other pools were freezing and avoided by all guests. There are three ways to get to downtown from the hotel, taxi ($15), Bus ($1.25), or walk (6 miles)> The best option for us would have been to ride a bike - It is all level riding and there is sidewalk the entire way. But this 'resort' has no bicycles available. There is no casino in the Sheraton, it is located in the hotel next door. The people were friendly in the Bahamas except for the people working at the hotel. They projected a feeling that they hated to work there and that the guests were the cause of their pain. The Amici restaurant was closed our first two days there. There is no shuttle to the airport or to town. There was a do it yourself guide to restaurants in town which had outdated information. We picked a place from this and found it had closed months before. I ordered a Rob Roy at the bar but the bartender never heard of the drink and didn't know how to make it. I switched to a Manhattan and got the same response. I ended up getting a shot of whiskey which he managed to provide. What resort has a bartender that doesn't have a bartender's guide? The weather was good and the people in town are very friendly and helpful.

Room Tip: To choose a good room, go somewhere else.

Dear Mitch C,
Thank you for choosing the Sheraton Nassau Beach Resort & Casino and for taking the time to write about your experience here with us. I am sorry we did not meet your expectations for your stay. We do not provide bicyle rental on property as we do not have the trails to utilize them. There is a place in the straw market just across the street from the resort that has scooters for rent. As the casino is attached to The Sheraton and is only a short indoor walk away we do consider it a part of our resort. Once again thank you for choosing us for your stay and I hope you visit us again soon.
Be Well,
Glenn

“Pleasantly surprised”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 7, 2012

Very pleasant 4 day stay at the Sheraton. Good location. Short bus ride into Nassau. Prefers to sample local Bahamian fare than go all inclusive. Loved the conch fritters and jerk chicken in Nassau. Wonderful, warm island people. Great resort staff. Very satisfied with ocean view accommodation. Large lobby and plentiful seating. WIFi and computer stations available for guests use. All good at Sheraton. No complaints whatsoever as far as resort is concerned. Be positive and go with an open mind and have a good time! Nothing is perfect in this world, you need to just make the best of the situation. Be less critical, be happy you are on vacation and enjoy life!

Room Tip: Go for the ocean view on the higher floors, level 5-6 is good.
