My husband and I decided after 12+ years of never vacationing alone that we would get away for a short trip and soooo glad we did! Our room was room 609 (top of the balmoral tower) with a beautiful view of the beach and on the side we could see both pools and dining areas. Probably the best views of the resort! Clean, beautiful room and we both slept awesome in the bed! We were on the beach by 2:00pm our first day and had three nights of beautiful days! We arrived at the airport and were whisked away to the resort in a rolls royce. First time for that and it was so cool to arrive that way. We were immediately taken care of and treated like royalty (which continued the entire time) I cannot say enough good things about our butlers Saronte and Vincent. They went above and beyond each and every day to make our first time away from our four precious children a wonderful experience (besides the fact that SPRINT screwed us up with our ability to call our children...which is a whole other story and has caused us to switch carriers..so double check before you go that you have international calling as I had made the arrangements but still was unable to while there). The weather was pretty windy while we were there (never rained but at night one night) so we weren't able to go to the private island, which was disappointing but no ones fault~it is hurricane season, what did we expect? Anyway, our favorite breakfast was at Spices, yes it is mainly self serve (besides water/tea/coffee which they usually bring a pitcher to your table) but you can get anything there. We ate breakfast there two of the three mornings we were there and it was delicious. We tried Baccarat one day from the recommendation of staff but it was just okay. Food was good, but the staff was slow and seemed uncaring. Our butler happened to walk through and make it much better (as the omelet I ordered was wrong and I never did get the smoothie I ordered) nothing major, just didn't want to spend our entire morning at breakfast. Dinners were all reserved and taken care of by our butlers which was a relaxing bonus. All we had to do was show up to eat! We are at Gordon's on the Pier, Baccarat and The Crystal Ballroom. All were delicious with WONDERFUL service. Kdoy at Baccarat was probably the best server we had the entire trip but all were very good, he just stood out as he went above and beyond and was quick to serve anything. We ate everything from steak to fish and everything was delicious. For quick dining we had the pizza, nacho bar, and cheeseburgers. (all close to the pools) We even got a lasagna to go from Casanovas that my husband said was delicious. We were supposed to have couples massages at the private island but since the weather wasn't ideal it wasn't open, but we did enjoy massages at the Red Lane Spa. Not the best massage of my life, but it was nice. When we arrived back to our room from the massage our butler had a candlelight bath drawn or us, complete with rose petals. A nice gesture!! Everyone we came across at the resort was kind, helpful and courteous. Even the other people visiting. It is large enough to where it could be at capacity and you don't feel like it, but small enough that you don't feel like you are on top of each other the whole time. Our favorite evening entertainment was the piano bar. He is just plain AWESOME!! Such a fun way to end the evening singing to songs of our pasts! We did that two nights and also enjoyed the talent show one evening. It was pretty good, but mainly consisted of staff as only one visitor signed up to share their talent. Overall we had an awesome stay. Bartenders made us a variety of yummy drinks throughout the stay and our butlers made sure my husband had his favorite beer (unavailable at the resort) the whole time we were there.
Thanks to our butlers, Vincent and Saronte for being so kind while we were there. If there was anything we needed they took care of it right away. (we even left an item behind and realized it when we returned to the states so thankful to have had them!!)
The only complaint we had was the housekeeping. Every day we would only have one wash cloth. One wash cloth for two people. I usually use two a day and so we would have to ask for extras so we could at least have two total. They did always bring a few extras when we would ask but it would take a good hour to get them. Just annoying when you are wanting to shower. Ended up using a hand towel a couple times. I never understood why only one was left each day. Not a major deal, just a small annoyance!
We did take a morning and visit the Atlantis resort. It was big, massive and took us about 1.5 hours to walk around and see the whole thing. We were trying to decided if we would bring our children back to it. Seemed to large for my taste, I think we will stick with our Beaches/Sandals resorts or condos. It was pretty but lacked the feel like you were important to them. But maybe if you stay there is it different just seemed like lots of walking!
OH, and FYI we managed to talk to our kids via skype Yes we paid for the internet service at the hotel but we were able to talk to them for free and let them see around the resort without any extra charges.
