“What a View”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 6, 2013

From the Queen's Staircase we continued up to the fort. It's not large at all, but anything history is interesting to my husband and me. Admission is only $1/ea and because it was so early in the morning we got a personal tour of the fort. Our guide took a couple of photos of us with the harbor in the background. The view of the city is fantastic!!

“Great view of the port / island!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 2, 2013

Nice little spot to visit and see a bit of history. You can easily walk here from the port in under 10 minutes.
We did the first couple of stops on a map we found on google: Nassau Walking tour

“Fascinating piece of history”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 29, 2013

I'll admit it up front. We are not shoppers. Let me repeat that: WE ARE NOT SHOPPERS. My wife and I are explorers. Historical sites are exciting to us, and we find other cultures fascinating.

That's why we walked from our ship and moved quickly through the hustle and more hustle of the shopping district. We visited the parliamentary buildings, the library, and enjoyed a stroll along the harbor. We walked out on a concrete jetty into the harbor, then found a bench and took in the beauty of a classic lighthouse on an island in the harbor. Our spirit refreshed, we then headed for the Queen's Staircase and Fort Fincastle. The fort and steps are well preserved and worth a visit. Both illustrate part of the history of the Bahamas while under British rule.

There is no need to take a taxi anywhere. Everything is within easy walking distance and we felt perfectly safe. Did I mention we are 66 and 67 years young.

“Great views of the port and island”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 27, 2013 via mobile

After the info/tour of the Queen's Staircase, you can walk up the staircase to visit Fort Fincastle and the water tower. There is also a straw market and a restaurant near the market and tower. You can't assess the water tower now, but you can get some good pics of the island and ships in port at the top of the fort. It costs $1 to enter the fort, but it's worth the views.

You can also tip a guide to tell you the history of the fort. Since we herd a lot of it from our guide for the Queen's Staircase, we skipped the fort tour. Good alternative to the typical cruise ship tours and you can do this tour on your own.

“Perhaps you are expecting too much??”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 22, 2013

You may not think it as much, but the history of this island decries the purpose of this small fort and appreciate its signifigance.
