We booked our package through the AMEX agent we've been working with for years, so the dreaded 'resort levy' was included in our total cost, along with transfers to the airport and some two for one coupons. Check in (6:30 PM Thur.) was smooth and courteous. Complimentary fruit was available from baskets on the counter. We found our island view room in Tower H very comfortable: spacious, well laid out and our balcony revealed not so much an island view as a palm and adjacent towers view. The sun came up behind 'our' palm tree every morning. We liked the separate toilet/bath and double sink vanity. All the expected amenities were there: breakfast table, mini-frig, coffeemaker, hair dryer, iron and ironing board, walk in closet, many channels on TV and prompt attention from the front desk (e.g. you tear a coffee packet the wrong way and need a new one - a bagful of coffees and teas within five minutes.)

We spent our first day at the hotel. The breakfast buffet at the Seaside ($18 US incl. gratuities) is lavish. Neither of us can eat that much for breakfast, but it was an easy way to pick and choose some favorites. Plenty of American standards: eggs, crispy bacon (far better than the limp slabs too often found) home fries, sausage,
waffles, pancakes, an abundance of fresh fruit, toast and pastry, etc. For those with hearty appetites, it's probably worth it. The pool has a swim up bar (Flamingo's - also dry land seating) a waterslide, plenty of deck chairs with drinks and snacks served poolside if you want to loll in the sun. Our only complaint was that the water was chilly, but that was probably because we were in a sort of cold snap even for the Bahamas. Air temperature wasn't much above 75 degrees. There is also a beach on the ocean and a private lagoon. We found that our favorite for swimming. Various vendors and water sports operators frequent the beach area; excursion trips are available from booths in the lower lobby.

Also in the lower lobby (next to the internet 'bar') is Crystal Sweets, a convenient, low priced (relatively) alternative for breakfast, sandwiches and salads. They can be packed to take away to the beach or pool (or your room.) Another option for breakfast is S'barro's, a few minute's walk away and right next to a jitney bus stop. We had dinner one night at the Black Angus, located on a mezzanine floor above the casino. Prices there won't shock anyone familiar with New York, Las Vegas or (gulp) London, but if you're not accustomed to those rarified levels it is expensive, especially considering every thing is a la carte. Entrees run from $26 US to $50 and more. Appetizers and sides are $4 - $10, desserts $5 -10. Wines are available by the glass or the bottle. (The bill will also include a gratuity of approx. 10 percent.) That said, our filet mignon was superb, the asparagus with hollandaise and baked potato just right, and the service attentive and gracious.

Our favorite dinner destination was Johnny Canoes's, a pleasant stroll from the front door. When we ate there on Friday, we were treated to their weekly 8:00 PM Junkanoo Rushout, a crazy parade of people in outlandish costumes, with trumpets and drums, weaving through the restaurant. Another night we ate on their outdoor terrace and listened to island music. Bahamian food is their specialty and their conch preparations are worth the trip (just be sure to order a glass of water with them - they are Bahamian seasoned!)

This was our 5th stay at the Wyndham. The staff were friendly and eager to please. Our corner suite was exactly where we had requested to be placed. The maid took great care of us and always accomodated our requests. We ate at the buffet most days and the variety is average but a little cheaper than eating anywhere else. Yes, things are more expensive that in the States but when on vacation you are supposed to be enjoying yourselves. Perhaps the visitors who have bad experiences with this hotel need to relax and slow down. Remember, you are on VACATION...the pace in the Bahamas is slower than most expect so if you want to go 100 miles an hour while your on vacation this is not the place to go. The renovated rooms are quite nice and I understand renovations will continue not only at the Wyndham but also at the Radisson beginning April 1. In time I think this complex will be revived especially with the arrival of Sheraton and Westin. The only negative I would share is that some of the casino dealers can exhibit poor attitudes and are not very friendly at times.

Me and my Friend go to the Bahamas every year on our Birthdays Mine on the 9/17 hers 9/15 and we have stayed in a few hotels but last year we stayed @ the Wyndham OMG we had so much fun....the people at the hotel were so friendly and the service was awsome....We like to hang out and do the local stuff we have learned how to get on the busses and to the grocery stores and the local chicken shacks...We are going back in September again and we can't wait.
Most of all we were impressed with all of the persaonal, I work for Intercontinental Hotels and I was very surprised and happy staying with the compitition.
Thanks,

For normal people, the Wyndham is a nice place to spend vacation time. The naysayers must have been fed with a silver spoon their whole lives. Our entire group of six couples had nothing but good things to say about the location and accomodations. A few tips...to save a few dollars eat at Sbarro's and Johnny Canoe's which are located next to the Wyndham near the Nassau Beach Hotel (a one minute walk from the Wyndham.)
...The coconut drink man serves delicious drinks on the beach for $5 (refills are $3.)...The Booze Cruise is worth taking. $55 gets you a 4 hour trip with lunch and drinks included as well as am opportunity to snorkel on a fish abundant reef. The trip also travels by Anna Nicoles house...I ate the breakfast buffet in the Wyndham and was not impressed. It cost $18/person. I preferred the breakfast at Sbarro's for less than half that...For a snack there is a 14 inch pizza available at the restaurant in the casino for $15...We found the slot machines to pay off rather well as we at least broke even... Drinks in the casino cost only what you want to tip (suggest $1/drink.)...If you want to save money, pack a collapseable cooler with you. You can buy 24 American beers in the small convenience store in the Nassau Beach Hotel for $48. Pack them on ice and you're good to go. Individual beers if purchased at the bars cost approximately $5, so you save $3/brew. I heard that beer cost more at the store in the Wyndham...The rooms were clean. Ask for an upgrade and you might get it. The views of the multi-colored ocean water from the room balcony are incredible...All in all, people are friendly if you are friendly so travel with the appropriate attitude and you'll have a great time

as others have mentioned, this hotel needs renovations, and my
understanding is that they (Wyndham) have purchased the hotels
on either side, and have invested 2.3B and are going to rebuild
everything.
The hotel is not bad... slightly shabby. However, the staff were
friendly, and the rooms clean enough. What we wanted was
a place with a beach with palm trees, a pool, and a bar to buy
drinks and snacks. An added benefit would be someplace
with some activities, like jet skis, parasailing, snorkeling, etc.
The Wyndham had all of that, and a casino if you're into that sort
of thing.

They have several restaurants on site, and they were not bad, although all were fairly expensive. That seems to be normal
for Nassau. <shrug>
The pool has a nifty slide that my 10 year old loved... about 50 yards
long or more, with several curves. Fun!

this was our first trip to Nassau, and we saw a number of people
frustrated with slow service. We intentionally slowed ourselves
down, and never expected fast service, and were fine with it.

  • Liked — pool/beach scene, had everything, not crowded
  • Disliked — slightly run down, pool heater was broken and they made no effort to fix it
