I have been coming to Nassau at least twice a year for 35 years and have seen overall service on the island go from surly to "with a smile". Everywhere I went this trip, from the taxi driver to hotel check in to the restaurants, the staffs looked genuinely happy to have us there. But, nowhere was the new attitude more evident than on my first visit to Luciano's on Valentines Day. We got in late and had planned to go to the Poop Deck since my all time favorite romantic restaurant , Sun and... was long gone, but three straight people recommended Luciano's for local cuisine. We called at 5:45 and they reserved two at 7:30. When we arrived, the nicely dressed young man at the front desk acknowledged that the concierge at The Cove was one of his favorite people and that he would take care of us personally, and he did very well. The view is great, actually superior to The Poop Deck it is back across the bay. The food is a combination of fresh, local ingredients with an Italian flavor. Hot bread with bruschetta, healthy drinks led off. My wife had red snapper and I cleaned my plate of grouper in a picatta type sauce. The food is as good as anything you're likely to find in Nassau and many other places, but it was the great service with a sincere smile that knocked me out. I hope that Luciano's is around for a long time because I intend to be a regular.
