“Still our favorite place in the world”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 17, 2012

We just enjoyed our second trip to caneel. We stayed on hawks nest in room 111 and divided our days between Hawksnest, Turtle Bay and Scott beach. We simply love all 3. Hawks has some seaweed but the groundskeepers do a great job of raking and grooming the beach. Hawks view is splendid with the hills rising on both sides and 2 other beautiful beaches in the distance. Hawks is a bit more windy which makes it cooler and we never noticed any bugs. The waves are a little bigger on that beach. Scott is a beautiful wide beach that is absolutely calm with the softest sand ever. It was hot at times and we noticed only a couple of bugs. There is plenty of shade if you want to get out of the sun. You can order food and drinks right on the beach which was nice. We say lots of turtles swimming on the surface of both hawks and Scott. Turtle bay is our favorite because it is a bit more intimate with soft sand the bluest water and beauty in every direction. Some days turtle had fairly rough waves and others were as gentle as a pool.
The room was not quite as nice as our previous court side room. The room needs to be refurbished but it was fine. The breakfast buffet was perfect and food at the grill good with large servings that we split when we wanted. The sugar mill was ok but we enjoyed our dinners more at different restaurants in Cruz bay.

“Favorite Vacation Spot”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 16, 2012

Caneel Bay, with it's pristine, unpopulated beaches is my most relaxing, beautiful, safe vacations. This is not a vacation for tv's, cell phones etc. It's a real get-away and retreat. I have been coming here since the 1980's and have never been disappointed. How this place is totally booked, yet you can't find more than a couple of people on their private beaches has always been a mystery. It is worth the price and keeps noisy, touristy, tacky stuff elsewhere. Always a rich experience! Enjoy!!!!!!

“Amazing resort well worth the price.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 16, 2012

What an amazing time I had at this resort. The amenities that comes along with your stay is the best bang for your buck. This resort features a full gym (yes free weights and everything), free kayak, snorkeling gear, two man sailboat and wind surf rentals as well as daily activities such as yoga, pilates, zumba and movies.

This resort has everything for the adventurous, fitness and outgoing individuals to the run of the mill retiree or vacationers alike who just wants to lay around and get pampered all day.

The level of service of the employees here at Caneel is five stars for me they are always smiling, always willing to help and most of all very quick to respond to any requests no matter how crazy or extravagant they may be.

This is truly one of the resorts I will visit again.

“Great and awful”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 15, 2012

This was our first trip to USVI and my wife wants to return soon because of this property. We especially liked the resident wildlife (donkeys and deer). The fact the resort embraces their presence tells us this is property values the environment which is consistent with the national park.

The rooms are small and the resort is costly for what you get. However, nice beaches convenient to our beachfront room. The water is warm and nice for swimming. Snorkeling was OK but not great due to cloudy water. Hawksnest Bay had too many jelly fish to really enjoy it. Scott's beach was great but the sting rays were of concern. We had two different groups next door who both were really noisy. We could hear quite clearly conversations from next door. A/C is very noisy, too (sounds like a shot every time it kicks on). But, it works great which is a must given the tropical rain forest weather of St. John. Housekeeping staff is EXCELLENT.

Resort staff was mostly helpful. Servers at breakfast were awful. Get used to "same day service." Most of the male shuttle drivers were great. Ellie is the best!!! Concierge staff and watersports staff were not good.

Food in the restaurant is very good and breakfast buffet is outrageously expensive (ie $32 per person - that's a lot for eggs and toast)! Also nice, is having a rent-a-car vendor on site.

A real plus is the resort providing transportation from the St. Thomas airport.

Overall, a spectacular property with nice beaches. Relaxing and beautiful. Ignore the awful service, weather and insects and this is a great vacation spot.

Room Tip: We were at Scott Beach. If not for noisy neighbors it would have been ideal. Get an end unit or sta...
