“One of the best beaches on St. John”
We visited Hawksnest Beach twice, once a short visit late in the afternoon and the second time most of a day. There's a fair amount of parking and rest rooms, as well as picnic tables, covered pavilions, and changing rooms. I think the rest rooms get locked up late afternoon, but the changing rooms stay open.
There are many niches with shade along the beach. There are several patches of coral along the width of the beach, each a little different and worth checking out. We followed a couple of turtles around, as well as a couple of sting rays. The sting rays sometimes hang out on the sandy bottom pretty close to the shore, so be careful as you're entering the water and swimming around.
The reef areas have a pretty good variety of fish. We saw a HUGE angelfish along the east side.
