Owner description: The good news: this world-class stretch of white sand and turquoise water is St. John's most photographed beach, which features a marked underwater trail for beginning snorkelers. The bad news: because of its popularity, it can get very crowded with cruise ship passengers and members of sightseeing tours.

“Incredibly beautiful beach”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 8, 2014

Trunk Bay was the first beach that we set foot on during our vacation to St. John. I was in awe because the water was such a beautiful turquoise blue and the sand was amazingly and consistently soft. I'm from Jersey and our beaches have nothing on the beaches here - it's actually laughable. We arrived at 10:30 am, because we had heard that you need to arrive early due to the high volume of crowds and groups from cruise ships but we easily found a parking spot. I guess 10:30 am island time is actually early. Unfortunately when we arrived there were red flag conditions so we couldn't snorkel the underwater snorkeling trail and we were even advised against swimming, but everyone was swimming anyway and as the day went on, it got sunnier and the water became calmer. There is food right by the beach as well as a bar and a little gift shop. A guy who worked at the beach bar/food place was walking around the beach offering to bring drinks directly to us beachgoers. There is only a $4 fee/person to visit this beauty. We saw a hermit crab and a pelican that kept flying around the beach and swimming very close to the water! Definitely visit this beach and hopefully there are green flag conditions so you can snorkel!

“Nice Beach with Amenities”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 7, 2014

Visited Trunk Bay one afternoon on my last trip to St. John. It's a nice, albeit crowded beach. They have showers, gift shop, food, & rentals of chairs & water equipment. For snorkelers they have a popular attraction of an underwater snorkeling trail around an island that is close to the shore. It was nice. The best surprise for us is an octopus decided to swim up to us. It was so much fun watching him. If you are there to snorkel there are plenty of other beaches to snorkel at that aren't as crowded. If you like to people watch, this is your place. Enjoy!
