Our family of 7 adults visited Trunk Bay during a visit to St John. We have all been on several caribbean vactions, but all agreed this is one of the most spectacular beaches we have ever seen...just beautiful!
Entry is $4pp at the gate ran by the National Park Service. A trail leads down to a large clean bathroom with shower facilities. The trail continues through tropical foilage to a small gift/rental shop and a tiny walk up snack shop and bar. You can rent snorkel gear and beach chairs for the day, buy a t-shirt or souvenir, and they offered a small menu of bar type food and cold sodas and beer for cheap, which we took advantage of during our stay there.
Continuing on through the trees onto brilliant white fluffy sand, palm trees and clear turquoise water...Amazing! Life guards are on duty although not too sociable and smoking is allowed off the beach on the back side of the trail. A small island off the beach offered a self guided snorkeling trail with markers explaining the marine life and the coral formations there. Just okay snorkeling, but tons of fish.
Our crew spent the entire day here lounging on the beach, standing in the water and visiting, taking turns snorkeling and just enjoying the beauty of this place. Rarely were there more than 20 people on the beach throughout our time there. Advantage of going during the off season.
Well, I've run out of adjectives to describe it's splendor. Just go there...it's a treasure!
