Owner description: The good news: this world-class stretch of white sand and turquoise water is St. John's most photographed beach, which features a marked underwater trail for beginning snorkelers. The bad news: because of its popularity, it can get very crowded with cruise ship passengers and members of sightseeing tours.

“Very picturesque”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 28, 2013

Be sure to get a photo at the overlook on the road in. It makes a postcard-perfect backdrop. This is a lovely beach, but gets very busy. It can be hard to find parking. If you get an early start you’ll have your pick of spots in the parking lot and on the beach. Facilities are very nice – lots of washrooms, change rooms, showers, and a snack stand with typical fast-food fare (at high prices, as would be expected). The beach is long and powdery with lots of spots for laying out. Surf can get rough when it’s windy; our daughter had her goggles pulled right off of her face in a big wave, and was pretty disappointed. The underwater snorkel tour will be hard or impossible to see on a rough surf day. It’s a cool idea, but info posted on the little signs it pretty basic. Bring along a book of tropical fish and you’ll be able to identify lots of interesting creatures.

“avoid the cruise ship crowds”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 28, 2013

If your staying on St John, find out the cruise ship schedule into St Thomas, avoid the days where there are multiple ships. Having loud speaker announcements to come back to the buses was annoying.

The reef is below average for St Johns, but we did see Tarpon on our visit on the right side of the beach. Otherwise its very beautiful beach.

“Absolutely Gorgeous...”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 28, 2013 via mobile

Trunk Bay is one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. It is protected by the US National Park and is very well kept. White sand, blue-green water, what separates Trunk from other Caribbean beaches is its cay. Snorkeling is great here, but it can get rough sometimes. There's a concession and a gift shop. The only real negative to Trunk is that it is a tourist beach and can get crowded. Nevertheless, it is a must if you're visiting St. John.

“The amazing St. John USVI”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 27, 2013

Hallelujah. I now understand the talk of the beauties of Trunk Bay of St. John. The water is of such beauty one can only imagine if you haven't had the good fortune of seeing and experiencing it. It does take some effort to get to St. John's once you get to St. Thomas. Either take the 40 minute ferry from St. Thomas to St. John, which only returns at either 1:45 or 3:45 pm., or take a cab in St. Thomas that takes you to the ferry that runs hourly, then take a cab to Trunk Bay. Either way, don't miss a chance to see Trunk Bay. The views of the beach and the sea are great. The blue green water of the beach is gorgeous and the white sand is soft and feels good between the toes. This place is totally worth the fee and travel to get here. I was amazed to learn that there are no traffic lights on the island and that's the way the natives prefer it. I was stunned when I heard a sudden thud fall from a tree on the way to eat at one of the local restaurants, so I had to document the sound – an iguana (and they say things are big in Texas).

“Perfect beach”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 24, 2013

Crystal clear waters surrounded by green. White sands. Trunk Bay is not to be missed. It's perfect for relaxing and enjoying the natural beauty of the island. The waters are calm enough to do a bit of swimming. Visit of the on-site vendors if you get hungry. If you go to St. John, make sure you stop by Trunk Bay!
