“Great place to stay on St. John”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 15, 2011

Spent four nights in the Delta unit at Serendip, and it was a terrific place to stay. The unit is very large and comfortable, with an inviting patio/deck. The sunset views can't be beat! It was very clean and well stocked with everything I needed, including plenty of towels. I was traveling alone, but felt very safe and comfortable at Serendip. The location is about a mile from downtown Cruz Bay. I walked into town 2 days, which is an easy walk. I even made the hike back up the hill to get back to the condo a couple of times. Warning - it's a very steep climb with not much shoulder, but I it's definitely doable (and you'll pass a couple of markets on the way so you can grab some food).

My mom and I went to St. John this summer on one of our yearly vacation getaways and we stayed at Serendip Condos. We've been to the Virgin Islands several times and have always stayed in hotels, so this was our first time staying in a vacation condo. Serendip far and away exceeded our expectations! It has a great location only 5 min up the hill from the center of town, with great views of Frank and Fish Bays from your balcony. The sunsets from the balcony are amazing, as you can see the sun set over the Bays on St John and also have a picturesque view across to St Thomas as well. The balconies on each condo unit are huge! We stayed in the Delta unit, which is on the top floor, but all of the 1-bedroom units on the second and third floors looked to be the same as far as amenities and size. The studios are on the ground floor.

The condo itself was great and met all of our needs, with a roomy living / dining area and a large, fully functional kitchen. The living area doubled as a second bedroom and the 1 main bedroom was very roomy as well with a large closet and plenty of storage space throughout the condo. Ted (the onsite manager) was incredibly helpful with reviews of beaches and places to visit and he also arranged our car rental through St John car rental, which worked out well. Serendip is located in a quiet residential area and the area is very safe, and the condo itself had very sturdy locks and doors and made us feel quite secure. There is a great onsite pool and deck for the days when you don't want to venture out to the beach. Serendip's rates were incredibly reasonable and being able to buy food and cook it in the condo and make our own lunches to take with us during the day as well really saved us a lot of money.

Overall, I'd give Serendip 8 stars on a scale of 1-5 and will definitely stay there again!

My family and I have stayed at Serendip for 9 or 10 days in the summer for the last 3 years in a row. I have travelled all over the Caribbean but find myself coming back to St. John and Serendip over and over.

St. John is a spectacular island. No crowds, perfect secluded beaches, just the right amount of shopping and enough good restaurants to keep your interest.

Serendip makes the whole experience feel like you're actually live there during the time on the island, not just staying in a hotel room. The views are outstanding, close enough to town (3 minute drive) yet far enough away to enjoy a good nights sleep. The nightly/ weekly rates are some of the best on the island.

Serendip's grounds are very lush, the small pool is great for a quick dip to cool off and the pool deck/ grill is a coxy spot to cook a meal at home a couple nights while you're there. When we want to hang out at a big pool/ pool bar we just head over to The Westin at the bottom of the hill (2 minute drive). Their food and drinks at the pool bar are pretty good.

Ted the manager, as you have already read, is always around and very friendly and helpful. If you are coming from St. Thomas just rent a car from Budget (they always seem to get people out the fastest), head on over to Red Hook, drive right onto one of the car ferrys and you will be in paradise in a little over 30 minutes! Serendip is 3 minutes from where the ferry docks on St. John!

Rhumb Lines is my favorite restaurant in Cruz Bay.

Spent the Christmas holiday at Serendip and exploring St John - what a beautiful place and a great way to spend the holidays! I spent 10 days in Delta condo and loved every minute of it. The condo is beautifully decorated and has a huge veranda that overlooks Cruz Bay and amazing sunsets. This is my third time at Serendip and I can't wait to come back next year!

Just got back from 2 weeks at Serendip. We stayed in Delta, and then Bravo - both were beautiful, clean and super relaxing. These are great apartments, and Ted and the owners have thought of everything to make your stay easier. We got in late, and the welcome package in the fridge was really welcome after a long day of traveling. The beach chairs and towels and coolers were great to take to the beach every day, and for families with kids there are beach toys too. The kitchen was well stocked as far as pots and pans, even a blender in each unit.

Ted is super nice, and will make arrangements for you if you need help. As with many others, he arranged our rental car before we came down.

The location is perfect - it's a 15 minute (straight downhill) walk to Cruz Bay if you want to be in town, but it's far enough out of town that you feel secluded. The balconies are HUGE, and would be great for a family to hang out. We loved watching the sunset on the balcony every night, and even though there are 10 apartments, we felt like we had real privacy for the whole stay.

We're already planning our next trip back!

What a great find! We loved our stay at Serendip. Ted, the onsite manager, was great. It was just enough off the beaten track that you had privacy, but close enough that we walked to Cruz Bay every morning. We will definetely rent a Jeep next time though cause the hills are extreme. The pics you see are exactly how it is. We stayed in Gecko. The owners were generous. The room was clean and comfortable. We did find some things that were broken or unuseable during our stay so we gave Ted a list. A grill is provided in the pool area but it is on its last legs. There were some cats that hung out just in case you wanted to drop some food for them, but they didnt beg and were friendly. The cost was VERY reasonable. Next time we come to St John we will bring the kids but we wouldnt dream of staying anywhere else! Thank you Ted for everything, See you in a couple years!

The sounds of the tree frogs and night noises are amazing at the Serendip condos! I enjoyed sitting on my patio and watching the bats chase the bugs when the sun was going down. Our room was clean and well stocked with everything that you will need for your trip to the beach. Ted is fantastic, he is around when you need him to answer a question. Thanks Ted; for the rum and fruit tray upon our arrival, we enjoyed it tremendously. Cruz bay is close, we walked daily into town but the hill is way to steep to attempt after snorkeling all day or partaking "Pain Killers". We will be back.
