“Easily the best place in Cruz bay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 4, 2013

The chef is excellent, produce and seafood very fresh. We ate here multiple times to avoid the mediocre food in many other st.john establishments. We had the mussels, scallops, Gorgonzola Caesar, smoked salmon bruschetta, and passion fruit custard for dessert. All delicious. Also very quaint atmosphere, with friendly staff and diners.

“Wonderful experience”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 16, 2013 via mobile

My wife and I are new to St John and La Tapa was one of our first stops. Wonderful ambiance with solid service and a table just below street level still gave us the opportunity to people watch. We started with the ceviche and blue cheese Caesar. Both were bland and lacking in some kind of POP and just kind of fell flat in the palate. We moved onto the grilled prawns with aioli, delicious and the salt cod croquettes which were not croquettes but cakes that were well over caramelized and poorly prepared. Our meal took a big upturn with the sweetbreads, pork belly and scallop dishes. All were prepared in very good taste incorporating classic flavor pairings while utilizing some local West Indian ingredients. I was very impressed with these three dishes which allowed us to move on to a wonderful carrot ginger bread pudding and a duo of sorbet that were a great ending to the meal. A beautiful bottle of sparkeling rosé along with café, aperitif and fernet branca to finish our night made this an enjoyable night out.

“Ignore the decor and order the Paella!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 5, 2013

We were sailing with another couple and they we were discussing restaurants in Cruz Bay and they said if you like Paella go to La Tapas and order the Paella for 2. So we made reservations (that were not necessary) and went. The restaurant is not much to look at on the outside and the decor is best described as shabby chic but the service and food were just excellent. We ordered the white Sangria and the Paella for 2. It arrived in a very large pot with a very generous selection of shrimp, fish, crayfish, lobster and mussels. It was served on a very large bed of season rice. My wife and I both eat Paella often and we both agreed that this was the best we had ever shared.
