Bob and Marlene, owners of Starvillas own several small houses / flats just a short walk from Cruz Bay. We stayed at Starview and it was absolutely perfect! Cozy, clean, nice view of the ocean, all the basic amenities, close to town, and reasonably priced. We absolutely loved it! The spiral staircase is a bit steep so if you have mobility issues you might want to check out one of the other units. Bob and Marlene are great hosts! Upon arrival they picked us up at the dock, drove us to the grocery store and gave us some helpful tips on restaurants, places to see, things to do, etc.. Our unit had a small kitchen but we used it only for breakfast. In town we found lots of great places to eat, and for the most part the prices were quite reasonable. For those of you who have never been to St. John you are in for a real treat! Cruz Bay and Coral Bay are both cool, funky little villages, the beaches are "off the charts" gorgeous, and there is none of the hustle, bustle, and commercialism of St. Thomas. One word of caution - taxis are pricey and many of the drivers are not very friendly. There are public buses but the schedules are spotty. We may rent a car next trip. One very pleasant surprise was the local music scene. Be sure to check out Chris and his band - they've been playing at Skinny Legs, Coral Bay on Friday nights for 15 years. Chris is a great guy and incredible guitar player. I guarantee it will be a highlight of your trip - it sure was for me and my girlfriend! Also, ask for Mark when you eat at High Tides. He's another one of the wonderful people we met on our trip. And one final tip - rent a dingy from Albert at Noah's Little Arks (and tell him David and Sharmila from Canada said hi!). It's a great way to see the island. We loaded up our cooler, lawn chairs, and towls, went to Trunk Bay and got engaged! What an amazing day! In short, St. John is a jewel of an island and Starvillas offers great value. We can't wait to go back!
