“Virgin Islands Ferry - Red Hook”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 23, 2013

Of all the beautiful, breathtaking possibilities of things to see on St. John, the Red Hook Ferry appears high on the list of things you might choose to overlook. The boats are largely old, not always well maintained, often noisy with nasty exhaust. But they run with absolute reliability from St. John to Red Hook - hourly, and the staff are totally honest. Luggage is handled safely: you don't need to check to see if your bags are still with you. And should you forget one, it will be waiting for you at the ship office. In 25 years, I have never known them to lose any item: books, sunglasses, scarfs. The staff is honest and totally trustworthy. For visitors, that should count for a lot...The trip is short, the landscape pleasant, and, good weather or bad, you will get from one island to the next efficiently. iris kern

“Good Ferry”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 22, 2013

Ferry is nothing special.. $4.00/person and $3.50/bag. 15 min trip to St John.. Really fast boat.. Liked the staff, views at night from the bay. Didn't like how old boat felt

“Gets you where you need to go”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 19, 2013

Took the ferry to return home. Porters expected an extra tip in addition to the baggage charge. When we got to Red Hook, we shared a taxi van with about 8 other people; the AC wasn't working very well, so it was an unpleasant trip.

“Easy breezy”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 19, 2013

Took the ferry from Red Hook to St John. Ferry leaves every hour on the hour. Tickets were $12 a person round trip. Plenty of seating. Sat inside on the way over, on top on the way back to take in the sunset. Purchase your tickets on the spot inside the ferry terminal. Limited parking available immediately outside. We ened up parking across the street and up the hill. Great way to see St John, we'd use the ferry again for sure.

“Brief, but pleasant ride”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 9, 2013

We rode the Red Hook ferry from St. Thomas to St. John (30 minutes). We sat on the lower deck toward the back. It was all open air, which was pleasant, even during the brief rain shower we had. If you're sensitive to diesel fumes, you may want to sit farther forward.

The crew took our luggage as we boarded, which was very helpful, and also unloaded it for us back onto the dock.

Not much to say as it was a short trip and we were talking to friends the whole way, but it was very organized and punctual.
