First time there and it was just fantastic. Great rooms, views are the best, and the staff was so kind and friendly that we hated to leave. Really worth the $plurge.

We enjoyed our stay at the Gallows. The view was amazing! We loved falling asleep to the sounds of the ocean. We had a few small problems with ants and low water pressure, but overall had a pleasant experience. I liked being able to walk to town instead of renting a car. Many of the restaurants are closed this time of year, including the one at Gallows. We didn't mind since there were fewer people on the island (no crowds). We had perfect weather. Just a few short showers during the day and night.

My wife and I stayed at Gallows from Sept. 14 until Sept. 21. We stayed in 3C. It was an Upper Ocean View room. The only thing we saw that looked worn was a little rust on the fridge, but that was no big deal. We loved the view and the peace and quiet at this time of the year in St. John. We may try a Lower Ocean View unit on our next trip. The loft was nice, but we decided we really don't need that much space and the lower units looked great also.

The staff were very helpful and very friendly to us. The maid service was great. We never had a problem with anything at Gallows.

The on site store was great also. Brenda and the rest of the staff were very helpful. They did have just about anything you would need while on vacation.

We snorkeled on site a couple of afternoons and it was very good. There are a lot of colorful fish there and we saw a sea turtle on our last day.

We visited the Westin and probably would not stay there due to the "tourist" atmosphere. I'm sure it is very nice, but Gallows is so much quieter and peaceful.

We also spent a day at Caneel. We didn't know that visitors were allowed access to much of Cannel. It was nice also, but why spend that much money when you can stay somewhere else and visit Caneel everyday, if you want to?

We loved Gallows Point. It was the perfect spot to honeymoon in August. There weren't crowds anywhere and the weather was great. It was hot and humid, but not unbearable. The kitchen was wonderful (and very stylish with granite countertops and SS appliances), so we saved a lot of money by buying eggs, an onion, and some kind of local zucchini. We made omelets just about every day and enjoyed our view of the harbor as we ate breakfast. We did take a day trip to St. Thomas to do some shopping, but the shopping on St. John was good too. The gift shop, "Every Ting", at the resort was not overpriced even if the selection wasn't as large, so we stocked up on many souvenirs right there and avoided having to carry them very far to our room! We had read some reviews just before leaving about the rooms being outdated, but ours was not. The on-site snorkeling was fun, and about as good as the other places we went. Wifi internet did not work on our laptop at the resort, but aren't we online enough at home? Besides, they had easy internet access right there in the lobby. Great time.
