After reading some previous reviews of the Westin, I was slightly hesitant about what my friend and I would encounter at the resort. We arrived using the public ferry and local taxis and imediately met a very friendly front desk agent Nicole. She was extremely welcoming and helpful. The gounds of the westin are very lush, well manicured and lush. The beach and pool are lovely, but the natural beaches are the best and so easy to get to. Taxi's are $5 -$7 per person to get you to Trunk Bay or Cinnamon Bay. We found no need for a car, but if you are visiting for more than 4 nights you might consider one just for the freedom, however, catching a taxi is always at your fingertips. The Gardenview room was nice and roomy. Of course the bathroom looks a little dated, but no big deal, the "heavenly style bed" makes up for it! The beachside restaurant featured good food, but we did not eat at the expensive one. We preferred to head to town for some recommended meals. The Mango Deli is great for morning coffee or homemade sandwiches. they also have staples and wine. I ordered room service meal one night but walked to market for my bottle of wine (much cheaper).

I would definitely stay here again and the garden villas are a perfect location. I guess if you always stay at the Ritz Carlton then this may not be your hotel, but overall it makes for a great vacation. I felt like whatever we needed they made it happen- sailing trip, dinner reservations, transporation, etc. This resort will take care of you if you let them.

I stayed here 5 nights. My room was in building 22 and it was a 2 room suite. The downstairs had a 6 chair dining table, couch, fridge, tv, and balcony. Upstairs had one bedroom with a king bed and bath and the other bedroom had 2 queen beds and a bath. The carpet was a little outdated but the tile in the bath had been redone. My only complaint about the room was both showers didn't drain well. Probably clogged with sand, but this should be fixed at a resort like this.

I only ate the breakfast buffet at the hotel. It was good. In comparison, I ate the buffet at Caneel Bay and Caneel had more items to choose and better pastries, but Westin had better eggs and pancakes. There was a computer to use in the lobby which I used daily. They had a water trampoline at the beach. The beach doesn't have the beautiful clear, turquoise water, but it's nice enough to swim. The pool was heated and very nice. One night they had movie night at the pool and provided free popcorn. We used O'Conner car rental located there and they were fine.

Overall, I was very pleased with the westin. The room was better than I expected and it is close drive to town. They also give you free bottle water daily. There is a new grocery store right outside the hotel. While the location of Caneel Bay is better, I still think the Westin is a good choice in ST. John.

BTW: I don't get all these bad reviews. I mean some people must come expecting the four seasons in Maui. If that's the type of hotel you want, then that's where you should stay. Some say their room was dirty, mine was always clean and made up after returning from the beaches.

We were at the Westin for 2 weeks in January. One week in our Villa and the second week was supposed to be in the Hotel but we were upgraded to one of the new Bay Vista Villas. The service at the Westin has always been very good. We have never waited long for someone to come to our room or villa either with food, something we needed or to fix a problem. Most of the staff there is always friendly. Which I think can be said about any resort. Especially at Snorkel's, Mango Deli. Starting with Snorkel's. Helenmay is our favorite. Such a very nice person. Close second is, Muris, Dorsett and Janice. From the time we arrive they make us feel welcome and that they are glad we are there. But they also treat evryone at the bar very well. As long as they are treated well in return. Which doesn't always seem to happen. Sally is the manager and works well with all her staff, running the place, and is just as friendly with everyone and happy to see us. Over at the Deli there's Lornett always with a smile. Even early in the morning. Patrick the manager seems eager to please and very friendly also. Besides our 2 week trip in January we were on Island from 6/26 to 7/3. but because of an offer we couldn't refuse we did not stay at the Westin. We did however make a point of spending 2 days at there pool. One of the resons was so we could visit with these people again. We have traveled a bit and I don't think I can remember ever being someplace where some people didn't have complaints. Including ourselves. But I feel to many complaints come from people that feel no room is good enough,no drink is strong enough. no responce is quick enough, no airconditioning is cool or quiet enough. If you know what i mean. Do I think things can improve at the Westin, of course. The hotel rooms need to be updated, the beach area and the water need to improve. Don't think the water ever will because of all the boats. But there's always Trunk, Cinnamon and Maho Bay. The people in charge of the front desk and guest relations need help taking care of peoples needs rather then explaning what they can't do. All this being said two thing's I'm certain of is that come next January when we get on island, my friends, my wife and I will be glad to be there at the Westin and seeing all those people again for the eigth year in a row and second would be very dissapointed if they were'nt still working there. Those people that I have mentioned and many more have become or friends over the years.

We had read all of the negative reviews of this Westin, but figured that those reviews were likely to be fairly common---you know the drill...only the people who had a bad experience write, and all the people who enjoyed it didn't. WRONG. We went on our honeymoon---and we'd love to have the choice of hotel back. I'd love to say that service was poor...but that's being complimentary. Let's use the word "incompetence" instead of "service." Anyway, in our first three hours there we went through 3 rooms...the first was flooded (which they tried to put us in anyway). The second hadn't even been cleaned and was filled with mosquitoes. The third worked. No one really apologized. It seemed like it was par for the course for them. EVERY time we walked through the front lobby someone was blowing up at the clerks about a room problem. I saw more eyes rolled there by guests than I could count. The pool was beautiful, the beach was a waste of time. Cruz Bay Watersports people were helpful and pretty good. Grounds were pretty--though nothing amazing. People driving carts avoided looking at you so they didn't have to offer you a ride. We really felt like we were a burden--and we're not high maintenance people. It doesn't take much to make me happy, but neither of us will go back.

This was my first time staying at a Westin hotel and my husband's second. We were very pleased by the resort. There was lots of stuff to do and all either on the resort grounds or they left from the resort. Restaurants, Swimming, Tours by land or boat, Tennis, Arcade, Spa, etc.
I was pleased that after landing in St Thomas, we didn't have to worry about getting a taxi and ferry to St John. We simply checked in at the desk at the airport and they took care of the rest including taking our luggage from the airport all the way to our rooms.
We had an oceanfront suite and the view was great! We had planned to downgrade to a cheaper room halfway through our honeymoon, but they ended up keeping us in the same room for the lower price. Awesome!
The staff were very friendly (the only exception was one woman in the scuba rental shop)! They were very informative and 9 times out of 10 said hello as they zipped by in their golf carts.
The pool was beautiful, especially at night! The beach was good. I was disappointed that the water wasn't as clear since it was a man-made beach.
The food was very expensive, so my husband and I went to a grocery store that's located just outside the resort (within walking distance) and bought food. They had some all inclusive buffets during the week (Italian, BBQ, Chinese), but we didn't join in. We did enjoy the entertainment that was provided! Fire dancing and a Caribbean band.
