“Can't wait to go back”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 21, 2013

We stayed at the Westin St.John in August. Glad we went then, it seems like the resort was open all year, but a lot of the places in town closed in September for the season. The resort was beautiful, there is no need to rent a car, unless you want to explore the island or are traveling with more than 2 people. The taxis were about $5 a person each way and were a little over a 5 minutes drive to town from the Westin. Once in town you could walk everywhere. The villas on the hill were a little nicer than the rooms in the hotel on the main property. The villas were further though and you had to wait for a resort shuttle if you didn't want to walk. On the other hand the rooms were closer to everything. The rooms in the main hotel were nice and clean but smelled slightly stale/mildewy. We did one excursion that was organized through the resort on one of the days and it was excellent. Well worth the money we paid for it. It was the excursion that went to the caves, baths, and lunch in the British Virgin Islands. It was a long but great day. We did not eat at the resort at all, the restaurants seemed a bit over priced and we never heard stellar reviews. The pool was lively and there were a lot of families staying there, we tended to venture off to the other beaches elsewhere on the island though. Trunk Bay was our favorite.

Room Tip: Villas are nicer, but further away from the resort. The hotels

While I had called ahead and reserved a ferry to the hotel, we arrived when we were told to...and ferry had left. The next westin one was not for 3 more hours....after finally figuing out how to get to the public ferry and arriving 2 hours late to hotel, our room was not ready. The staff could not even apologize appropriately, refused to compensate us in any way and were extremely rude.

I've been to many nice islands, where a hotel sent a ferry and those always waited for us to get our bags when we had reserved a spot ahead of time.

When you spend 500/night for a room at a supposedly nice hotel, you expect at least some decent level of customer service. I was not expecting the four seasons..but was assuming better than motel 6 caliber service. The front desk and manager were dismissive of us and treated us very poorly...there was another hotel guest at desk at the same time whose husband had the same experience. She was also livid..and said they had a customer service problem, and they also stared back at her with no helpful response.

I sincerely regret that I was unable to book at Caneel Bay, which was sold out. I expect some response from Westin corporate or Starwood..as the St. John staff clearly does not care about having satsified guests...and you have a problem here.

Additionally -- our room is very tight...pool bathrooms are FILTHY. Let's hope this vacation starts getting better...

Thank you for your review and for choosing The Westin St. John for your recent vacation. I want to apologize for the issues you experienced at the airport upon check-in and for the fact that you were unable to utilize our ferry transfer and instead, chose to take the public transportation. I also want to apologize for the Customer Service you experienced and the fact that your concerns were not addressed to your satisfaction. I appreciate your feedback, because without it, I am sometimes unaware of areas that need improvement. I will ensure that my Department Heads implement further Customer Service training to ensure that our associates are treating our guests like the valued guests that they are. I truly hope your vacation turned around during the rest of your stay and that you left feeling relaxed and rejuvenated. Please feel free to reach out to me at 01098.guestrelations@westin.com if you’d like to discuss your stay in further detail. Again, thank you for sharing your experience. Friendly staff, spectacular scenery, nice beach and good rooms. We had an ocean-front room and opened the curtains every morning to brilliant sun shine and turquoise waters. I don't think ocean-front is worth the extra cost, the rooms overlooking the pool would be OK because the pool area is quiet at night. Our room was very clean and well-appointed except for the balcony. The furniture was old and worn and the shingles were in bad shape. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Restaurants were good but VERY expensive. $60 breakfast for two? $20 individual pizzas? About 100 yards outside the entrance is a very nice market and we used the room refrigerator to stock up and had our own continental breakfasts and sandwiches. Cab service to and from Cruz Bay was easy and reasonable ($5 pp each way). The ferry was convenient but MUCH more expensive than the regular ferry service to Cruz Bay.

Room Tip: Ocean front is nice but I don't think its worth the price difference. If you do decide on an oc...

We appreciate your feedback and thank you for posting a review on Trip Advisor. While it sound as though you enjoyed your Ocean-view room accommodations and our helpful and friendly staff, I want to apologize for the condition of your balcony and that the cost of goods did not exceed your expectations. Unfortunately, due to the high cost of living in the Virgin Islands, our resort pricing is a bit higher than you may be used to. We apologize if this inconvenienced you in any way but again, we are glad you had an otherwise enjoyable stay. Thank you again for your review and we hope to see you soon.

Ok I have stayed at this resort 20 years ago when it was a Marriott. It is a little outdated I will agree and for the money spent they should have money for upgrading. However, it has all you need right there and if you did not want to leave the property (which would be a sin ) you would not have to. Staff very friendly service somewhat slow but just the way of the Island's. I would stay there again, 3 years ago we rented a nice house with a pool but my teenagers were bored need the action of a resort!

We spent 5 nights at the beautiful Westin St. John. It is a delightful resort with all the amenities. Our room had a beautiful patio that was about 25 ft from the bay. The room needs a refresh as it is fraying at the ends. I was impressed with the smooth transfer from the St. Thomas airport to the Westin ferry and back. We loved the island. The snorkeling is fantastic. We liked all four restaurants we tried in Cruz Bay, with La Tapas outstanding, and the taxi shuttles are efficient. The national park has great hiking trails with several ending up at beautiful beaches. There are so many beautiful beaches on St. John's. This island is not for those watching their pennies as it is pricey. For us it was worth it.

Room Tip: Try for a patio.

It was our first stay on St. John and at the Westin. What a beautiful resort! The landscaping makes the resort. Tropical paradise. We had the opportunity to stay in both a standard king ocean view room and in one of the private pool villas during our stay. Both were outstanding. Impeccably clean and up to date. The Westin heavenly bed gave us the best sleep we have ever had on a vacation trip. Can't say enough about the staff. We were treated royally during our stay. The resort has every convenience. Including a Little Switzerland jewelers right on site that enable you to take advantage of the reduced prices while staying in the USVI. The swimming pool is huge, complimented by beautiful palm trees and landscaping as well. Beach is very nice and has chairs provided. We loved the beautiful gazebo for reading and taking a break from the sun. We can't wait to return.

My wife and I visited the Westin for 5 days. St.Johns island has the most beautiful beaches and water I have ever seen. The layout, amenities, and grounds of the Westin are wonderful. They have about everything you need, and there is a grocery store about a 3 minute walk across the street. The only thing that was alittle disappointing were the rooms. We stayed in building 22 and our room was pretty dated. It was clean professionally every day(and they do a wonderful job of that). The beach and pool are nice, as well as the restaurants. We had a great time.
