“Rent a timeshare with a pool”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 20, 2013

Mom's just want to have fun!
We rented a Three-Bedroom Pool Villa thru "stjohncondos.com" for half the value if it would have been booked through the hotel. It was everything they advertised and more. Staff was wonderful and very helpful. It was within walking distance of the grocery store so we actually stayed in a few nights and enjoyed dinner by our pool. If you are staying at the Westin this is the way to go!

We spent a glorious week on St. John the end of January and stayed in an oceanfront room at the Westin. The location of our room was wonderful just steps from the beach and pool with a great view. The room was a little dated and worn and is in need of redecorating for the price. However, the property is lovely and very close to town.
We were frustrated with the Westin ferry. Our flight arrived into St. Thomas at 2:15 pm. After deplaning and getting our bags relatively quickly, we found ourselves waiting in line at the Westin airport desk. When we finally got up to the desk, we were told that we missed the 3:00 ferry and would have to wait for the next one at 5:30. After a long day of travel and our excitement upon arriving in the Virgin Islands, it quickly gave way to dismay that we were going to have to wait at the ferry dock for 2 1/2 hours! There were many other travelers from other flights in the same predicament. You would think that the Westin would have ferries running more often for their valued guests who spend a lot of money to stay there. It is only about a 20-25 minute ride over to St. John and each day during the week, we saw the ferry just sitting at the Westin dock for long stretches of time. I did send a very polite email to the general manager after our stay to compliment him on his property but to let him know that I thought this could be handled better and he didn't even bother to respond. I love St. John and will definitely return, but I will probably either stay at Caneel Bay or rent a villa.

Thank you for taking the time to post a review regarding your recent stay at The Westin St. John. While I was pleased to learn that you enjoyed your room accommodations and your overall stay, I want to apologize for the inconvenience regarding your ferry transfer. We sincerely appreciate your feedback and take your concerns very seriously. Please note that our ferry is also utilized for departures from our resort, so it is oftentimes at our dock to retrieve those guests who are leaving. We are currently in the process of evaluating future room and property renovations and also our ferry transfer process, so your feedback is very valuable and will be shared with the necessary departments for considersation. Thank you again and we look forward to welcoming you back so that you may experience our improvements first hand.

As everything on St. John this place is expensive.
The staff was all very helpful, but there was some confusion with our checkin resulting in it not getting completed correctly. The breakfast restaurant could not see that we had breakfast included, but got it fixed.

The sink in the bathroom was leaking, dripping a 25cm (10") dia. puddle of water onto the floor everyday. Door to the balcony locked but did not close with a tight seal letting in insects.

The "beach" is a couple of truckfulls of sand poured on the pebbles so it looks nice, but is not very nice for bathing (take a taxi to Trunk Bay instead for bathing).

The hotel has direct transfer to/from the airport on St. Thomas which is convenient, but about double the price of just taking a taxi, the ferry over and then another taxi. $65 vs ca. $35.

Walk up to the main road and take a left, 2 mins walk leads you to a super market where you can stock up on fresh fruit, rum and other necessities.

Room Tip: Rooms in some buildings are very far away from everything, check the map.

We appreciate your feedback and thank you very much for your review. While I was glad to hear you found our staff to be helpful and friendly, I want to apologize for the confusion regarding your reservation package, the leaky sink in your bathroom and the seal of your patio door. Please feel free to reach out to us at 01098.guestrelations@westin.com, as I’d love to know what room number you were in so that we can have our Engineering team take a look at the room and repair any concerns. While our beach is in fact man-made, I am glad you were able to get out and explore the unparalleled beauty of the surrounding beaches. Again, we thank you for your feedback and hope to welcome you back to see our improvements firsthand.

Just returned (Feb 16th 2013) from a week at the Westin St Johns. A pristine property manicured to the utmost. Our mountainside studio was very nice. It had its own pool with built in grills for preparing your own meals. The dining in and around Cruz Bay is EXPENSIVE. Entrees averaged $45 to $80 in most. Diner for two with drinks and tip = $200 easy. Positives: Beautiful grounds, great pools, small private beach, newer hillside accomodations. Negatives: TOO MANY east coast people, abnoxious, rude, impatient, NY and NJ snobs. Midwesteners stay away, you will NOT like it. Very expensive for average service and accomodations. Locals are nice when you are spending money and tollerate you most of the time. Beaches are average for a carribean is. Stay away from Trunk Bay, too many cruise ship people. Not much in cultural history anywhere. Cruz Bay, the main town is crowded with little to nothing in the way of shopping. A few average beach bars, but nothing special. All in all, somewhat disappointing for the money spent, however if you are going to St Johns, the WESTIN is the best place to stay.

Room Tip: Villas on the hillside are newer, hotel rooms are smaller, beach and pool front villas are best, but...

Great place to stay in St. John. Service was great. Staff was helpful. Rooms are not super luxurious, but are really nice. It is very convenient because every thing can be found on the resort (rental car place, jet skis, snorkel gear, tours, cafe, and restaurants). Most of the restaurants are really good except for the Banana leaf. We ate dinner there and thought it was ok. The breakfast looked good but we did not eat it. Cruz prime restaurant was really good.

We have been visiting St. John for 5 years. We always rent a timeshare. We rent a one bedroom loft that has the master bedroom in the loft space. You can close it off. The main area has a granite island and open living plan. There is a large full bath on this level, a washer and dryer and a small balcony with a table.

We like to cook. There is a grocery store within walking distance. There is a pool and grill area for the timeshares. I love the Westin Gym and tennis courts. This is a great place to play tennis. There is a little deli on the property.

This is a laid back island. There are great restaurants in town and within the Westin. The taxis are well organized, the staff is very nice, property has great landscaping. They have activities for children of all ages- or choose a time when the kids are in school. My favorite beach activity is watching the iguanas.

You will like the timeshares better than a hotel room.

Room Tip: If multiple couples are going look for a dedicated 2 or 3 bedroom. The 1 bedroom loft is not very p...

My husband and I were a little concerned after reading some of the reviews at this site. However, we also took some of the negative reviews with a grain of salt because some people have unrealistic expectations and will complain no matter what. We took a direct flight in from Philadelphia which was really convenient. One wish we had was that Usair offered regular direct flights during the week to give us some more options on the length of stay away. We decided to take the westin ferry( although a bit pricer than public ferry, it was very convenient and worth the hassle of knowing we were "checked in" and didn't have to worry about taxis on both sides of the port. We were greeted with a rum drink on the dock and felt welcome to the resort. Our room was located in building 11 which is right near the pool and not too far from the beach. Our room was clean and updated and we were happy with the location. I wish they had screen doors out to the patio area to be able to enjoy the breeze in from outside but most people would probably not care for that.
There are plenty of places to grab a drink or something to eat within the resort. Prices are expensive but they are in line with other resorts so expect to spend a lot on meals and drinks. There is a supermarket near the resort so you can stock up on drinks and snacks to save a little bit of money. We bought some water, beer, chips etc. We ate all our meals on the resort except for one night when we ate at the spyglass cafe. It was a beautiful view with a nice casual atmosphere and yummy food. We wandered around the area after dinner to check out shops and bars. There are some fun places to grab drinks. There are plenty of westin taxis driving around so it was nice to know we could head back to resort when we wanted. Back at the resort we had a nice meal at Cruz bay prime. It was nice and intimate with nice selections on the menu and wine list.
Every staff member at the resort was friendly and nice. We enjoyed the variety of things to do during the day from floating on the rafts, swimming in the pool or hot tub and paddle boarding. My husband and I were taking this trip as a long weekend getaway however we commented to one another how nice a resort this was for everyone. There were a variety of people of all ages here. We had no problem getting seats by the pool and beach every day and felt we were able to have some privacy when we wanted it. We would definitely recommend this resort to another couple of family. We will be back!
