“Amazing view, excellent food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 18, 2010

Make an early evening reservation and ask to sit on the terrace and watch the sun set - it's gorgeous. Excellent food, professional staff. We chatted with the bartender for a bit before being seated, she was really nice & recommended a great wine. The standout for me was the duck & 5 spice gnocci. Everything was wonderful though.

“Beautiful place...good food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 18, 2010

Asolare has one of the prettiest locations and views on St. John, and its interior design is of equal beautiy. Service is superb, friendly and professional. Food is very good. A good place for a special night on St. John, especially for couples looking for romance.

“crab soufflé at sunset - couldn't ask for more”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 17, 2010

We have eaten here several times over the years, but I particularly enjoyed it this time. This trip we ate on property at Caneel (so beautiful and so mellow) and only had one night away. There are several very good restaurants on St. John, but none can beat the atmosphere at Asolare. The view, the stylish wait staff and the food all combine for a great experience. Go at 6 pm for the sunset and get the crab soufflé.

“Calm and pleasant....”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 14, 2010

Every restaurant on St. John has a personal, individualized spirit, or vibe. That's what is so neat about the island - not a chain restaurant to be seen....Subway tried to have a shop here but it failed. Asolare has a very special spirit. It used to be a house and some of the older "kids" who still live on island remember hanging out there and having fun. The flowering trees along the walkway going in get you into the mood....and then you enter the restaurant and see the view! If you arrive early for cocktails the bartender is generous and you can sit sipping your painkiller as you wait for your table. Remember this restaurant is all about presentation, atmosphere, CLASS. There are new people running it, and their young energy shows. The dishes illustrate local foods and some classics. Few people think of eating filet mignon while on vacation in the Caribbean but someone in your dinner party should order it. Generous portion and very tender. The wines are good, the service impeccable and European. If you are in a hurry or feel harrassed don't go to Asolare. Treat this restaurant as you would a visit to a spa or yoga class. Some of the reviews indicate trouble with wait staff - i see over and over again that some, repeat, some, visitors bring their off island attitude with them and this affects how people react to them. This restaurant has a lot of spirit, class, and is a quiet spot for tired people. Enter with great calm and I am sure you will be pleased.

“The Good...... and the NOT so Good”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 8, 2010

Our 9th trip to St. John. My wife and I ate here March 30, 2010. View is spectacular - of Cruz Bay and St. Thomas, and you are paying for it! This was our fourth dining visit - and probably our last.

The Good - my appetizer and main course delicious - service excellent.

NOT so Good -
1. Dessert of chocolate cake - a joke - a small Betty Crocker brownie with a tablespoon of vanilla ice cream for $10.
2. My dinner entree special of halibut portion very small - and at $44, that's disappointing.
3. My wife had rack of lamb - at $47 - a good portion, and at that price, it should be.
4. I left hungry - after an appetizer, main entree, and dessert.
5. Bill before the tip - $128 - included between the two of us, one glass of wine, one appetizer, two main entrees, and one dessert.
6. No bread or butter.

Try Morgan's Mango in town - much less expensive and just as good - we ate there also.
