My husband and I booked a week at the Sailview for our honeymoon and could not have had a better experience. The location is off the beaten path which is exactly what we were looking for (no crowds and mobs of other tourists). The rooms are lovely and offer everything you could need -- small fridge (stocked by our thoughtful hosts), TV for the evenings (or on the off chance it rains), books, patio, coffee maker etc. The location was also great -- overlooking Coral bay which is much less bustling than Cruz Bay but still offers great restaurants, music, shops and beaches not far away.
Despite the location and beautiful deck, custom tile and other touches -- what makes the Sailview so fabulous is the hosts. Eileen and Mike, the owners of Sailview, are the most hospitable and lovely people! They truly made our stay fabulous from the food and champagne in the fridge to the great conversations on the deck. They are there if you need them but you have complete privacy as well. From the moment I spotted Mike waiting for us at the ferry dock wearing a fedora with martini in hand I knew we had chosen the right place. It is people like Mike and Eileen who you meet on your travels who make them so memorable. We definately plan to return one day -- perhaps for an annaversary!
A few suggestions: You must rent a car -- and reserve it ahead of time! While we made the mistake of assuming we could show up without a reservation, Eileen saved us by calling me the week of the wedding and letting me know there was only one vehicle left for rent the week we were arriving!
Definately go on some hikes -- the island has beautiful protected park land. Have a Painkiller (or two) -- in fact, if you can take a day trip, go to Jost Van Dyke (I recommend the New Horizons II ) to have an original one at the Soggy Dollar Bar. Don't just stick to Trunk Bay. We enjoyed the beaches at Cinnamon Bay and Salt Pond Bay (not so crowded). Check out Vi's Snack Shack and definately get BBQ from the little stand in Cruz Bay. Oh -- and the breakfast burritos at the Mojo Cafe in Cruz Bay are great too.
