“STUNNING - A MUST-DO in St John”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 14, 2014

This trail had a weird rocky start, but you CANNOT top these views. The hike was moderate with some challenging parts. We don't hike on a regular basis and we were just fine. It does get very hot and you are under a lot of direct sun so go early and wear sunscreen and a hat! This was my favorite thing we did during our trip. The beauty is so unexplanable and pictures could never do this justice. Such a variety too from starting by walking on the beach, hiking through woods, crossing a rock beach, hiking up hills and rocky paths all the way to the top to see beautiful rock formations, beaches, ocean, you name it. I would say this is an absolute MUST DO for anyone visiting St John. Might be too challenging for children.

“Amazing (hot) hike”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 9, 2014 via mobile

We got an early start, and it was still hot! Tough uphill climb, but the views are incredible. Strong but delicious breeze with stunning view at the saddle. After hiking Reef Bay today (both directions), we much prefer Ram Head. Take snorkel gear to Salt Pond afterward to cool off, along with LOTS of water!

“Great Moderate Hike with Good Payoff”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 9, 2014

This short hike completed the trifecta for a perfect day at the beach: good snorkeling, lovely sandy beach for relaxing, and a moderate hike with a lovely view at the end.

Our mistake was not bringing closed shoes or hats with us to the beach (we did carry in water though). We covered up less than we should as well, thinking we'd be in the trees until we got to the point. Not so: the hike is on a rocky and exposed trail even where there are trees. So while you don't need hiking boots and walking sticks, closed-shoes/sneakers and good coverage for your head and shoulders (and as always in the USVI - sunscreen) will make for a smoother, more pleasant hike.

The trail itself was lovely because of it's variety: first skirting along with water between the bay and the eponymous Salt Pond, turning up into the trees, back down and opening onto a cobblestone beach, and finally climbing up the fully-exposed, windy and rocky Rams Head point (look for the piles of rocks on the beach marking trail entry/exit points from the cobblestone beach). The climbs are "moderate" and the trail is well-maintained.

The view from the top is beautiful with the most majestic sights being the views down into the cliffs and rocks below (be careful at cliff's edges with the strong winds up there!).

We took our time given the less-than-ideal footwear we had, and it took us about 90 minutes roundtrip. Highly recommended.

“BEAUTIFUL”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 8, 2014

It was about an hour hike, but well worth it. One of the most beautiful views you will ever see. Take water with you.

“Awesome Hike with a Great View!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 26, 2014

We heard about this hike from family members who regularly do it on their trips to St. John and had to do the trail ourselves. We have extensive hiking experience--Colorado, Utah, ect.-- and found the short, steep trail to be interesting but not extremely taxing. It was probably an hour roundtrip, but was a good hike because of the steep incline. The views are incredible the whole way, as you start on a beach and make your way through a valley and onto a cobblestone beach before ascending Rams Head. Definitely a MUST DO for your next active vacation to St. John. I highly recommend it. The pictures alone are worth it!
