“A nice hike & a beautiful view.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 13, 2013

this was one hike we had not done, but wanted to do. As described it is not an overly strenous hike, but the trail is extremely rocky. At a nice pace the round trip can easily be done in less than two hours. A large portion is in the open so early morn may be preferred to the heat/sun of mid day. But, the view at the end is worth whatever it takes to get there. Just spectacular.

“Highlight of our trip!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 10, 2013

My fiancé and I agreed that this trip was our most favorite thing we did on our trip! The views were incredible and there were interesting things to see along the way.
We did some research ahead of time so we were prepared- I would not do this hike with small children, during the middle of the day, or in a hurry. We wore hiking shoes, took water, and wore lots of sunscreen. We did the hike in the early morning so there were no other people on the trail. Even early, the sun was intense. Hikers should take care to stay hydrated and to watch themselves as you near the end of the trail- the sides of the peak drop off into the ocean.
I highly recommend the hike for anyone who is in decent shape and has proper footwear. We heard the snorkeling at Salt Pond Bay is awesome but were so sweaty and tired after the hike we decided to skip that.
If you walk along Salt Pond Bay beach and head on the trail away from the water's edge you can walk along the salt pond, which is neat. You end up backtracking to the original trail.
I should also mention that the 'parking area' is just an open dirt area and taxi drivers will charge an arm and a leg to get out there. I would rent a car- it is worth it!

“Excellent Trail”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 9, 2013

Visit on non cruise days for a peaceful hike. Pack a lunch and snorkel and eat on the beach. Visit the petroglyphs off the main trail.

“Great, scenic walk”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 29, 2013

Don't forget your water and shoes, no sandels because it actually gets fairly demanding, especially on a full sun day but its beautiful. Great water vistas and varied topography. If your in good enough shape make sure to do it.

“St. John's hide away”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 25, 2013

Ok first there is a island bus that will take you there for $1. but it's not reliable and wasn't for us so we took a taxi back. Trail is 1.2 miles, rocky and a little twisty. Starts at salt pond bay, once you get to the rock beach keep going until you pick the trail up again.. Hike up to the peak it's a beautiful very awesome view. Well worth the hike. We started at 2pm with a few clouds then the sun came out and it got hot. We saw deer and wild donkeys.. Fun!!!
Looking back we would have arrived in the morning hiked the trail in the a.m. spent longer at the top (take water) then spend a few hours at salt pond bay/ beach. maybe do some snorkeling..
