My wife and I have been to Point Pleasant twice, April 2001 and November 2003.
Point Pleasant Resort as the name implies, is not a resort by American standards. It is a eco-friendly group of timeshare condos that are rented out by a management company. The grounds are a lush, steap hillside with pleanty of agave, trees, and wildlife with some interesting trails. Point Plesant is a the only property of it's type in the area.
The managment will not book a specific room for you until you arrive, they will only hold a slot for you on the property. The first time we arrived, the only room available had no windows, I'm not kidding! The room was free for the first night and they put us in a nice room with a beautiful view of St. John, Jost Van Dyke and the other BVI's the next morning.
Point Pleasant's ocean view is about the best the USVI's have to offer. No other hotel will offer this view for the price.
The staff is not there for customer service, they are there to maintain the property and offer menial assistance, be it at a slow pace. The slow pace is indiginous of the island, anywhere you go, pack your sense of humor when visiting.
That said, Point Pleasant is perfect for the budget concious explorer type. Remember, these are basically apartments with a couple of good resteraunts located within.
My suggestion is to use Point Pleasant as a gateway to St John, St Croix and the BVI's for daytrips via the nearby Red Hook Marina. St. Thomas really doesn't offer much at all for the well travelled. Actually, we leave St. Thomas at the first chance and head straight for St John and beyond.
Bottom line, inexpensive, no frills, EXCELLENT LOCATION, BEAUTIFUL VIEW, clean, quiet with three very nice, little used pools, staff - "One Star", except the bell hop guy, he's OK.
If you don't stay at this property, do stay on the east end of the island.
Feel free to contact my email for addtional tips about the area.
