My wife and I just got back from a good week at Pt Pleasant resort. Here is a by the numbers critque based on our recent experience with tips:

1. Atmosphere - you really feel a part of the island scene and the views are awesome. We stayed in a 1 BR upgrade deluxe with 1 KING bed. The rooms are roomy and have a nice kitchen, fridge and TV/CD player. The shutters and the deck provide for a cool island breeze and neat sound along with the calm beat of the water below your deck and window. The overall room and location are hard to beat.

2. Great place for a romantic getaway, where peace, quiet and privacy are the main goals.Ideal honeymoon type place for couples. * I doubt families with kids will find this place ideal due the walking distance things are from the rooms.

3. Food selection was ok and got old after a few days ( we stayed 7 nights). Fungi's is decent but lacks variety. Snacks and food tend to be pricey $$ on the island. We shopped at the nearby Marina Grocery, right acorss from the Red Hook terminal 2 miles away.

4. GET A Rental car. The roads demand a small car. We rented a Toyota Yaris and got a great rate from Hertz at the airport. This was a good choice and was easy to get around in and park. Do NOT rent a BIG car, get a jeep or econo 2 door like we did.

5. We did not bring any dressy clothes so we never ate the Main Terrace dinning place. It sounded /looked pretty good however.

*** beaches -
Sugar beach- is a small, kinda rocky beach with an exotic tropical island feel, a short walk down on the resort property. Good for a quick swim and relaxation.

Pinapple beach -on resort property next to Fungi's. Water is nice , but with Coki a short walk away, walk to Coki*

* Coki Beach - walking distance ( 10 min) aross the resot bay near coral world. Incredible snorkeling and bring dog buscuits to feed small tropical fish . This beach is the by far the best close beach ( to resort) and has a low key relaxed atmosphere ( no entry fee). You simply go down to Fungis, walk across Pinapple beach 200 yds and go up a small hill on the road and back down ( maybe 200 more yds total). Check out your snokel gear at watersports next to Fungis.

* Megans Bay- easy to get to if you drive, go west (R)out of the resort on the same side of the island. Incredible white sand beach. Cost $2.00 to park and 4.00 each for fee. Has a nice place to shower off, use bathroom , rent water sports stuff, and buy snacks, etc.
A must trip if you want a nice day on an incredible , ideal beach!

* Trunk Bay - St John- OMG! Wow. Best beach/snorkel experience EVER. No parking fee, but 4 bucks each to enter.Has an area to change and shower and snack similar to Megans Bay. We went twice, took the car ferry from Red Hook. Take the one that is on the hr ( not half hr) and it is 42 bucks round trip.
This was the beach highlight of the trip.

Overall -* pros- great views and sense of exotic island paradise
*con - few traditional resort ammenties or food selection. However, this place may be the best overall value $$ and bang for your buck on the entire island and room was ideal and very clean.

Other tips!

The resort fitness center is a joke LOL. If you want to work out try Extreme Fitness which is in small shopping center with Home Depot , on the way back to Havensight * main harbor.

The number is in the book under gyms, and ask for Sonny. Guest pass is 12 bucks per day. I am bodybuilder, but don't work out much on trips like this for obvious reasons.

Food and grocery items are pretty expensive. The Subway at Red Hook is a good value for light meals. The room kitchen is VERY complete, clean and nice.

Consider buying snorkel gear at home and bring it. You can rent some or use the resorts , but having your own is less hassle.

The Morning Star has what seems to be a great cruise right from the resort. We ended up opting out of that and did a sea trek helmet dive at Coral World which was awesome and well worth the $78 each.See Debbie at the front desk for activities.

In the end, we loved the place but feel we stayed 2-3 days too long. We would go back but for a 3-4 night stay and just live it up.

Point Pleasant is a beautiful place to stay but is far from the center of town which is where a lot of other events are and the only transportation is either taxi (expensive) or the dollar bus which is unscheduled and only follows the main route. Point Pleasant advertises a beach but they really don't have one that's accessible. They also don't have access to breakfast on location but will shuttle you to the Wyndham for their $20.00 each breakfast buffet or to a local coffee shop for pastries. Since the condos are equipped with kitchens we bought food for breakfast and a few dinners-but groceries are 67% higher than on the mainland-so be prepared!
the day sail on Morningstar is great!

I read all of the reviews both on Expedia and Trip Advisor and took them all with a grain of salt, because people's experiences are subjective. However the facts are these: you will not find a more beautiful backdrop in St. Thomas, the views are spectacular!!! If you have read the workers are rude, it was probably because of rude demanding Americans!! everyone was extremely nice and helpful witha smile. We complained about an odor outside our room and quickly got upgraded to a superior suite!! We lucked out because we ended up in a privately owned suite and was colorfully decorated.

The rooms I have to say are a "luck of the draw" They are outdated and somewhat of a need of a upgrade, but if you happen to luck out and score a owners room and they take care of it then you will be pleased. Listen, it is what it is, if you want a better room, book at the Wydam next door, with 600+ rooms 1300 demanding Americans, and breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Yes, the resurant Fungi's doesn't have breakfast, big deal, go down to Red Hook and pick up some breakfast items and you'll be all set. Or the hotel shuttle's will take you over to the Wyndam for breakfast, what more can you ask for.

The Hills are a steep and real tough to climb, espically if your on the top of the point. HOWEVER, there is a shuttle that will take you anywhere on the reosrt. I didn't wait more than a minute for the taxi toshow up at my room and they were happy to be of service.

I have to agree with the reviews of the beaches, they looked better on the website, but it's the Caribean, it was still clear and blue!!

For the money, go there, you won't be disapointed unless your expecting more for your money. You also have three nice pools, one for each level of the resort!! all with beautiful views.

“Rude people!!!”

Point Pleasant Resort

I just spent 4 days in St. Thomas and stayed in the Point Pleasant.
The reception desk is supposed to welcome you to the hotel. Not at the Point Pleasant! The front desk service is TERRIBLE. They are rude and do not care about you.

In the other hand, the people from the activities desk are VERY nice and helpful.

The view from the rooms are excellent, but you must have strong legs. You will be on the hill.
You should not miss the restaurant (Agave). Great food there.

Overall opinion. Run away from this hotel. The view and the rooms are good but I am sure you can get better service somewhere else.
Don't waist time there. Go straight to St John.

We stayed at another condo property before in Florida and really liked the environment and having a kitchen, so we decided to stay at another condo at St. Thomas. We relied on the reviews here and rented a car, and it's the right move if you stay at Point Pleasant.

We loved the views, the hills and the grounds were reasonably well kept. The pools by the restaurants have great views, though the pools themselves look quite old. Service was decent, though not spectacular.

We were happy with most things except for the room. The room made our stay very miserable, and we will not go back there again because of it. We weren't expecting anything luxurious; we stayed at a condo property before and we knew the units can be a bit worn. We were simply expecting functional appliances, cleaniness and a dark bedroom where we could sleep.

We were really looking forward to some sound sleep the first night after our flight and a stressful week. Our unit has clear glass windows in the bedroom with no curtains, and at night there was a sidewalk light that shines right into our bedroom. The AC was really loud and we had to turn it off and use the ceiling fan instead. My husband had to sleep on the couch the first night in the living room, which was a lot darker and the AC there was not as loud. I slept with a towel over my eyes. It turned out all the other units in the same building have their bedroom windows painted a brick color, except for ours. We complained about it the next morning (the front desk is not open 24 hours), and they offered to move us to a much smaller unit. We declined the offer and asked them to cover up the window in the bedroom, which they did. They offered to show us another room, but we just didn't bother at that point because we wanted to go to the beach (and honestly we didn't want to pack everything up and unpack again in another room, unless it's a much nicer room)

It didn't end here. One morning I woke up and stepped on a puddle of water by our bed. It turned out the AC in the bedroom was leaking and there were puddles of water all along the wall. It was toward the end of our stay and we figured we would just put towels over them instead of spending our limited time dealing with the front desk again.

To top off our experience, the power went out the last night we were there, while we were sleeping. We woke up because it was hot. That might not have been their fault but it certainly didn't help with our experience. Lack of sleep doesn't make for a good vacation.

There were some minor things that we could have overlooked, but together with everything else it shows total lack of maintenance. The stove top is not level, the sliding closet door is squeaking and not lubricated, the TV in the bedroom doesn't work (no cable box), and the TV that does work in the living room has poor satellite signals (which may just be the satellite company's fault).

With this resort, if you get a nice room that's well kept, you will have a great time. If you are unlucky like us, you will end up spending more time dealing with the problems than being on the beach. While we were at the front desk, there was another couple who was having problems and asked to switch also. So if you like taking chances, by all means. We are going to stay elsewhere next time we go.
