“What a shame, not like it was in the 80's”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed January 23, 2013

If you are looking for a beautiful view. Then stay here. Views in StThomas never change. Hotels, well that is different. I was here in the late 1980's. Here is the good.
The view, the view and the view.

Not so good is mostly everything else. No beach so if you think there is one you can think all you want...because there is no beach. Take the ferry over to St John or go to Megans Bay.

The Hotel sit's on what I would call "cliff" so getting around is not easy. This is a very low key enviorment so please do not expect them to roll out the carpet with ooddles of night life either.

I'll put it this way Point Pleasent needs an major update to become more pleasent to me. Overall it was clean but come one ownes...lets update and make the effort for return guests.

Hello my name is Larry Stokes, the new Resort General Manager here at Point Pleasant in the US Virgin Islands. First I would like to thank you for taking the time to review our property and your stay with us. Your comments and concerns are very important and will help our owners, partners and management team make the changes necessary to create a true Caribbean vacation destination. I hope you will consider staying with in the future, If you chose to give Point Pleasant Resort a second chance I guarantee you will experience a positive deference in customer service and the overall quality of your visit. Give Point Pleasant Resort a second chance and upon your arrival I will present you with a $100.00 dinning certificate as our way of saying thanks for your support, redeemable at the new Panga and Agave restaurants. In its heyday Point Pleasant was one of the nicer places to stay on the island. My husband and I actually married there at the gazebo overlooking the ocean. That was 30 years ago. We returned in 2012 with our adult son and were fairly disappointed. Its obvious the place has seen better days. We saw evidence of disrepair everywhere from peeling paint, rusted pipes, terrible road ways, pools that needed repair and deck furniture that should have been replaced years ago. Additionally the place just had nothing going on. And not that we wanted excitement, it just felt like the dead zone. The Agave Restaurant is closed so the only place to eat is Jacks, which is basically greasy bar food. The view there is amazing but it can get quite windy down there at night since it's right on the water. As another reviewer noted this place is very steep having been built on a rocky outcropping and if you are not a registered guest you cannot use the shuttle service so you have to walk up and down very steep and rocky walkways to get back and forth to Jacks and pools if you are up top. Also note, if you have a private rental you cannot use the watersports items, you can't even rent them. Nor can you use the tennis courts. Internet service in the units is non existent and again if you're doing a private rental you cannot sit in lobby with their wireless key.

Yes the views are to die for but you're a long and somewhat tough ride from town. Its not easy to go back and forth for dinners out if you want to have a couple of cocktails since the roads are very winding, many curves and you drive on the left. There really is no beach to speak of here and Coki, which is across Smith Bay and the closest (not comfortably walkable at all) fills up with tour bus groups from cruise ships to the point of having people literally on your blanket. Plus the locals are very aggressive. I even had a local expose himself to me underwater when I was snorkeling. Now that was some fish.

They say they have a gym but its an absolute joke. It's so small with a very low ceiling that unless you're a hobbit forget using it. Plus the equipment looks like they got it at a tag sale.

Overall, I think for the money you can do better somewhere else.

The staff at Point Pleasant was so friendly and accommodating from the moment we arrived. They were more than willing to help with any questions we had... even going above and beyond by calling different Ferry companies for us and comparing prices on day trips. They also gave us rides up and down the hills to the road so we could catch a Safari to Red Hook. It is a great location with spectacular views and close to beautiful beaches. Everything is clean and updated and you will find that this place has everything you could ever need. Can't wait to go back for my next trip!

We've stayed on different islands and resorts but found Point Pleasant on St Thomas to home for us. We've been coming back for over twelve years and see the same smiling freindly faces each time. From the front desk, Murial or Laurel, or the resort host Willie, even the grounds keepers and maids you can tell thiere is something comfortably special about this place. We LOVE that the villa's and grounds are covered in tropical folage giving you plenty of privacy yet also a feeling of a quiet freindly community.
The amenitys are wonderful: Jack's (best burgers on the island), the three swimming pools, Morning Star charters, free snorkel gear and kayaks. Looking forward to our next return!!!

Stayed at a condo owned unit at Point Pleasant for my birthday weekend end of 2012.
Pros of the property-
Private
Proximity to Coki Beach (its a small beach with the best snorkeling on the island, but has access to Coral World)
Not too far from Red Hook Marina (shops and ferry)
Safe
Great bay/ocean Views from almost any unit
Nice restaurant on site- Jacks Bight
Nice wildlife on the property (Iguanas, lizards, etc.)
Quiet (during the day)
Nice staff on site (they usually only help you if you're in a resort "participating" unit, but help most times anyway)
Located centrally near Sugar Bay and Sapphire Beach

Cons of the property-
WiFi Issues
Water has a stench
Far from Airport- at least 35 mins
MANY barking dogs next to the property as well as NOISY roosters (seems like ALL night and early morning) HARD to get a good nights sleep- NEED ear plugs for sure when staying here.
VERY VERY steep hills- No need to go to the gym- you work out just walking to get a cab or to and from your room. Leave the good shoes home- you will ruin them.
Speaking of ruining shoes, the property can use an asphalt upgrade. Horrible roads/walkways or lack thereof
Be careful as to what unit you stay in, you can be on the top of a hill in a top unit (great views, but HORRIBLE to get to- especially with luggage or after a day of being out).
Cab ONLY comes to the office, not to your unit building.
Property does need some updating. Looks old and dreary.

Otherwise, we enjoyed the privacy of where we stayed in Point Pleasant.
No one looking in on your unit.
Hard to believe this place is about 4 stars. Typical island life though.
St Thomas in general is VERY hilly with high terrain.
Taxi cabes seems to rip you off, but they all work together to some degree with the cost- PER person and if you have a bag (luggage) they charge for that too. The resort works with a few taxidrivers who live close to the resort and are there in 5-8 mins.

Room Tip: Bring WALKING shoes!

Great location, we can just walk to coki bay, which has great snorkeling spots and not far from red hook ferry either. But the room does not look as nice as it's pictured and there is no wi-fi in the room as it says in the description when we booked online. But overall, it's quiet and convenient.

We went to Point Pleasant on our honeymoon and have been back since. This time we went back with our 2 young sons. We rented a 2 bedroom 2 bathroom unit way up high on the hill. It had gorgeous views, lots of space and was beautifully appointed. We really enjoyed our time there...it's so quiet and secluded but close to lots of things to do and beautiful beaches.
