“Lovely Place with Great Staff!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 20, 2013

Just stayed for a week at the Elysian. Nice pool and beach (limited snorkeling). Comfortable studio with Murphy bed ensured that there was plenty of space! Full kitchen and large bathroom. Great staff and restaurants - ask for James and Joel at Caribbean Fish Market!

We just got back from St.Thomas after a fantastic weeks stay at the Elysian Beach Resort. We booked through Nancys-condos. Our condo was very spacious and had three bedrooms. There were only two of us, but it easily could have accommodated eight people. The beds were comfortable and the whole condo had a very modern feel to it. It was clean and decorated tastefully. The beds were really comfortable and the bathrooms were very large. The AC units were really quiet and we only had to turn them on a few times as the breeze from the beach was amazing! We were so close to the beach and had a stunning view of Cowpet Bay. The Elysian provides chairs on the beach and was never over crowded. There was also an activity shack where we were able to rent paddle boards (they also had kayaks, peddle boats, small sail boats and windsurfing boards). The pool, hot tub and pool bar were also a favorite (all within steps from the condo, on the Elysian Beach grounds). There was a spa and a gym, but we did not use them. We dealt directly with Nancy, the owner and property manager of four condo units at the Elysian. She was so helpful. She mailed us the keys along with a list of instructions. We had free WIFI all through the resort, which really came in handy. Nancy was very accessible and provided great recommendations for activities and dining through her website (Nancys-condos). We would love to come back and stay in one of Nancy's condos again and again and again! We recommend booking with Nancy for an easy/hassle free experience and a beautiful stay at the Elysian Beach Resort.

Room Tip: We only stayed in one of Nancys-condos units, in building C, but she has other units in buildings B...

This resort is located on a beatiful bay with a white sand beach, ideal for lounging and swimming. The lodgings are well-maintained, although not entirely up-to-date, and comfortable. The view from our unit was outstanding. With a nice balcony, it was great to wake, grab a cup of coffee, and sit outside to enjoy the view and breeze of the trade winds. The resort has two restaurants - one a more casual grill, the other specializes in sea food. We only ate at the former and we found it quite good, both food and service. Getting here from the airport although not too far is a bear given the narrowness and condition of the road. Highly recommend to not try this trip at night.

Room Tip: Try to get a 3rd floor unit for a better view.

We rented from an owner and had a very nice and clean condo. It had 1 bedroom, 2 baths, full kitchen and two balconys each with a nice view. We would have really loved it if it were not for the steps and hilliness. The beach was nice and never crowded as well as the pool. It had two great restaurants and a descent fitness center. I thought the whole area was clean and nice. However to get to the beach, pool and restaurants we had 30 steps to go down, not bad but coming back in the heat not too pleasant.

Room Tip: Stay in the building on the low level A-H

First of all, you needs lots of cash. Taxis, ferries and some other places did not take credit cards. The resort did, but you could not run a tab at the bar or restaurants there. Having to carry your cards or cash was an inconvenience. Someone had even lost their credit card by the pool, but fortunately for them, an honest person turned it in. The check-in was good, but our room in building L was on the 2nd floor and looked out at another building. The floor was a bit dirty when we entered and the check-in clerk got snappy and said that she would clean it herself. Ok, she did, but it should have been cleaned in the first place. The bed was very comfortable and clean. This is not the Ritz and we knew that. There is a lot of walking up and down steps, so be prepared. Sangria's was passable, but nothing great. The salads and the pizza were very good. The drinks are pricey even at happy hour. The Fish Market restaurant was expensive and another guest told me to save my money. So I did. Beware of the sand fleas! I must have ended up with 20 very itchy bites. There is a beach area that is ok, but you will need to go to Cinnamon Bay or St. John's or Virgin Gorda to have a gorgeous beach experience. If you don't mind driving on the left hand side of the road, rent a car. It will save you money and you can tour around on your own. The check-out was ok too, but just remember that you will be charged $22.00 a day for the energy surcharge. It was ok here, but I would not go back. Not that I had a negative experience, but it was a bit of a come down after staying at some really quality Carribean resorts.

Terrible place for vacation, I hate it so much, staff is unprofessional, the place need upgrade, I was moved to different rooms due to lack of cleanliness. There was hair and sand in the bed that I was told was"just cleaned". This place need an cleaning upgrade. He view is bad just like most of the pictures posted. I was asked to pay for my electrical usage! Which I never did at any hotel before. I do not recommend this hotel. I was so excited to get out of that place.( I suggest their CEO pay them a visit like the "undercover boss show". )

This is a nice getaway with a few drawbacks. It is in a great location just 5 minutes from Red Hook and about 30 minutes from the airport. Expect to pay about 12-15 pp for a cab from the airport unless you rent a car. We took cabs everywhere and for 4 people that added up.
The checkin process is smooth here-our paperwork and keys were ready and they gave us 4 beach towels which you can exchange daily if the laundry is ready (2 days we had to wait until next day)
The room was as expected if you've been to the islands. I thought it was very clean and the kitchenette surprisingly well supplied. Our first night it rained and the roof leaked!!!! Actually dripping on my husbands head in the night. We moved the bed and that solved the problem. There were small ants everywhere even though we kept all food in the fridge or microwave.
Groceries are expensive so even if you plan to cook in expect to pay high prices except for rum!
Bath towels were supplied at our request promptly and we constantly ran out of toilet paper and this was also provided quickly. We thought service was efficient but not overly friendly.
The beach was beautiful and groomed daily by resort staff--with the exception of the bugs that ate us alive we loved the beach. The pool is beautiful and could use a few more chairs. The hot tub is about as hot as a hot tub can be--use caution!
Here are my problems with the place--they charge you a 22 energy fee which in and of itself is not a problem but why not include it in the rate? Or, make it 30 and offer wifi ( separate charge) fitness center (separate charge) and watersports (separate charge). It really turned me off that you had to pay to use the fitness center. Even the lowest level hotels have a treadmill and some free weights.
The Caribbean fish market is a very good expensive restaurant. The other restaurant onsite sangrias has decent food but a limited menu. Don't expect any bargains an you can't charge anything to your room so expect to carry you wallet around with you.
I did love the folks from the beach hut but they are not affiliated with the resort.
Overall, it's a decent clean place to stay. Calling it a resort is overstating it a bit. For older couples or people with very young children or someone who wants low level of activity in a quiet place this is the right spot. Just don't expect a full service hotel feel or out of the this world service.
