We ave been going to this resort for several years and much of the bad press and mixed ratings were on point. Now that there is new management (the Wyndom name) we have noticed a change of attitude with the staff they are much more pleasant and responsive, and guests are asked to fill out a "rating" card when they depart.

Another great change is that the owner/chef of Robert's restaurant has taken over the beach bar (it's named Ainsley's for his daughter) and the food/service is great there as well.

It's not what I would consider a high end (think high price) resort on the island but it's just the right size to walk to the pool, beach, transportation, office or restaurants without breaking much of a sweat, and we are in our 60s.

We plan to return no less that every other year as long as we can.

It still bewilders my wife and I when we read the reviews which by the way can keep you on your toes ,however ,the Elysian may not be the Hilton or the Ritz ,but as the project manager of the Elysian when it was built and also finished up on what is now the Ritz, The Elysian means a quite and relaxing time ,Vegas it is not nor was it ever intended to be ,while being an owner of a unit there we also experienced some very rude visitors ,which no matter what was done, they remained unhappy, but the majority that go there leave very happy,we have since sold our condo but we still go back and enjoy it as much as ever. It is as they say lay back and enjoy!!!!

“Best bet is to rent from owners!”

Elysian Beach Resort

Stayed at Elysian Beach 4/10-4/17. Some of these units are part of a timeshare, others are individually owned and rented. We found our unit on vrbo and it was fantastic. We still got to use the Elysian amenities, while having a completely updated 2+ bedroom 3 bath unit w/washer/dryer and three balconies. The grounds are beautifully maintained, and we used the pool/bar area daily. The two restaurants, Roberts and Ainsley's are probably 2 of the best in the area. The entire cowpet bay area is the perfect location as a base for all your adventures. We found the staff at the Elysian to be friendly and helpful, even though we weren't renting directly through them - no problems whatsoever. We also got to use the owner's lounge to print out our e-tickets for the return home. Highly recommend renting a car. It takes getting used to, but you will not enjoy the island unless you do so. One family staying at our hotel felt "trapped", because an excursion for them all to and back from town cost $90 in taxi fare. The virgin islands taxi structure of paying "per person" is truly the biggest rip-off on the island. We took our car on the ferry over to St. John, lots of fun. Oh, and we also liked Latitude 18 nearby the hotel - a 4-wheel drive would have been better, but we managed in our avis sonata - no road, just rocks and dirt - but worth it. And of course Duffy's, where we brought home different tiki glasses from their famous drinks. Fantastic time, we will be back!

We've been to the Elysian a couple of years ago with friends who own time shares and, other than a beach that had been badley in need of sand in the wading areas, the experience was pleasant overall.
This recent trip was completely different. In total agreement with a recent reviewer concerning front desk staff attitude. Rooms are in dire need of repair and make over...more than just a new coat of paint. Air conditioners may be from the 70's and give an evening effect of laying near an airport ruwany.
The two saving graces were the smaller beach cafe and "Roberts" , the full restaurant. Quality of food was excellant and service was impecible.
I felt bad for my friends who fell in love with the area years ago enough to commit to the investment and have had to endure countless battles with previous management and now with Windham , the new owners, who seem to be floundering in their efforts to turn things around after 3-4 months. The location is beautiful and can be magnificent. Right around the corner from the Ritz, but unfortunately for the Elysian, the location is the only thing they have in common. And honsetly, we found "Roberts" restaurant a much better dining experience than the Ritz...but, sadly, we couldn't live or sleep in Roberts.

Where shall I begin. We were not allowed to check in until 2 hours later than originally stated in their welcome package. Then we had to check out at 10AM, which is 2 hours earlier than any other resort we ever stayed in. Front desk employees were rude and were not helpful. A couple of times, they were to busy to answer questions because they were talking amoungst themselves about non resort issues. How do I know; I stood there and listened to the entire conversation. If you are into sea showers, you'll be fine, however there was no water pressure in shower and toilet did not always flush. They did their bug spraying during the day for three days and all you could smell was bug spray for the entire last three days of our vacation. The smell lingered into our room and into the kitchen area. We were in a loft unit, which I gather is one of their bigger units. Linen was changed out only on Wednesday, however I asked for more linen from cleaning woman and she did drop some extra for us. The cleaning woman in our unit was very helpful and very through. More helpful than the front desk. The pool was clean, however unless you are a regular customer, don't expect to get a table or chair. It appears that tables are reserved for regular customers. I saw the pool man reserve tables for swimmers who didn't show up until afternoon, however, the pool was busy w/swimmers but you couldn't use the table because he had it reserved it. I didn't see signs saying that you could reserve tables at the pool. I asked at the front desk and they said it was first come first serve, however this was not the case. Now for the finale; We can't stop itching! I have well over 20+ bites all over me from my ankles to my shoulders, my husband has equal amounts. Some of them are now infected. I have an appt w/Dr. for either fleas bites or bed bugs bites. We didn't notice anything in our unit. As I indicated, our cleaning woman was very through and our unit was clean, however something is lurking. The itching started w/in two days of being there, however, we thought it was from sun burnt skin. This is not the case. We have not brought our suitcases into the home because we are afraid we might have brought whatever they are back. All we did was sit at the pool the entire week. We didn't even step foot on the beach at all.
Positive notes: Robert's/Ainsley's awesome! Food delicious, workers great. Everyone very positive around the entire restaurant. Can't say enough about it. Pricey, but what isn't down there. Their prices are normal for island living. Felt very safe at the resort. Like I said, our unit was very clean, however, we're still baffled about the bites.
If you are looking for a self contained resort, this is your choice. Aside from complaints we have, we would try it again and hopefully they would have resolved their management issues they appear to have. I would hope that Wyndham mgmt reads this review and takes notice. This resort definitely has a management problem.
One other thing: at check out they tack on an additional $9.00 a day per person, per day as an energy surcharge. We had a bill at the end of the week for an additional $144.00. The people behind us had 6 people in their party. You do the math...
