Spent 5 nights w/in-laws w/Marriott ownership. Booked our usual person (Rachel) for quick pickup from airport to the Cove. Lucked out taking chance on having great weather in Oct. Rooms are perfect for 2 couples; both bdrms have great beds/linens (king in one & the other has queens) w/updated bathrooms. A/C worked fine. We must have had renovated unit since furniture was in great condition w/seating in living area very comfortable--nothing looked worn. Requested/rec'd top floor & we looked out to unobstructed pool/ocean view (wouldn't want upper St John bldg w/some views blocked). Loved that we could be at pool & then use beach since they're only steps apart. Plenty of lounge chairs--never a problem to find empty ones at pool like at resorts. Ate many meals at casual restaurant (Sunset Grill) adjacent to pool because it was great to walk from pool area in coverup: favorites were the spicy/sweet chili glazed shrimp appetizer & breakfast burrito. Breakfast/lunch always good (& great breakfast buffet at sister hotel--Frenchman's Reef by using convenient shuttle by short walk up hill to the check-in bldg) & took advantage of nightly happy hour w/island drinks. Rented car for 2 days to leave resort to go to Magen's Bay, Ritz Carlton, Red Hook, etc since it's ridiculous to spend almost $80 w/tip for 4 adults to go to dinner since they charge per person. We read about complaints walking to pool but it didn't bother us to take 1 elevator to ground level--then another one to pool level since elevators worked quickly. Took day trip to St John to swim at favorite beach--Francis Bay but disappointed our favorite restaurants there were closed for season (Shipwreck Landing/Sweet Plantains/Miss Lucy's, etc.).
Only con: one morning only 1 waitress so it took over an hour for breakfast--she was trying to clear tables/take orders/get drinks/etc. We felt so sorry for her--finally saw a younger man appeared to take orders & clear tables. She had people at 8 tables!!--bad mgmt to allow that. The next day a young woman identified herself as mgr so we told her 1 person being put in that position was ridiculous for a Marriott & hoped they wouldn't do that to her again. Sunset Grill has limited menu but we were pleased w/quality of food & no complaints about strength of drinks. Would definitely return for another relaxing vac & should mention we enjoyed the sunset cocktail cruise you purchase through the resort kiosk by pool. Food is expensive but that's expected everywhere in Caribbean. Everyone was nice to us from hskpg to bar/restaurant.
