“A slice of paradise...”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 2, 2007

A friend and I stayed at Wendy Snodgrass' wonderful B&B (only 4 rooms) for five days over Christmas 2006 and we can't say enough good things about the ambiance and the owner! While a bit hard to find and a fairly steep climb from central St. Thomas, it is well worth making the effort. The view is superb, the decor and spacious living areas cannot be improved upon, and Wendy's attention to detail and hospitality are unbeatable. She made incredible gourmet breakfasts and arrangements for taxis, in-house massages, dinner reservations, etc.---a superb chef/concierge/hostess. While the bedrooms are not large, each had airconditioning and a modern and generous bathroom. There is a large patio for sunbathing, and a pool-with-a-view. I highly recommend Bellavista as a charming, personalized alternative to the large resorts in the islands.

My husband and I stayed at the Bellavista B&B for 5 nights in Nov 2005. This was the best B&B I have ever stayed at...the views were to die for, the rooms were perfect, and the breakfast was outstanding day after day. Wendy was a wonderful hostess and she was very accommodating each day with advice on shopping, restaurants, and island activities. She even went out of her way to provide us with snorkel gear as well as booking a day sail for us after we had received cancellation of our original sail. We will definitely be back again for a second visit!

Though we are new to the idea of staying at bnbs we have stayed in enough places to know a great find when we come across one. Honeymooning in USVI and needing a night to stay in St. Thomas at close to the last minute Wendy was very quick to respond to emails and accommodate. Also, her information on the bnb location was helpful in directing the taxi driver from the airport. Even when leaving Wendy waited with us for the taxi and made sure the driver knew where to take us. We stayed in the J’ouvert Gardens room and loved the little touches like removing all of the decorative pillows before we went to sleep, placing flowers on the sleeping pillows, and of course bug spray for those evening excursions into town and/or laying by the pool watching Charlotte Amalie light up. Wendy joked that she needed to reread her books on how to run a successful bnb but I think that she should write her own book! The only negative thing about our experience is that we weren't able to stay longer!

Bellavista feels like a home away from home while staying in St. Thomas. Wendy's attention to detail is evident throughout the house and her beakfasts are absolutely amazing! The pool deck overlooking Charlotte Amalie is a perfect place to come back and relax at after a day of exploring the islands. Bellavista is close to town and beaches, yet you feel so far away in your own piece of tropical paradise. We can't wait to go back!

Wendy really gets it. She does all the things an excellent bnb hostess should do and then does more. Many have spoken of the beautiful home and the delicious meals, but it was the little things that impressed us the most. Flowers on the pillows, eat off the floor clean rooms, magnifying makeup mirrors, use of her kitchen for making snacks, flexible check out times, and more. Never have we felt so at home in a bnb and at the same time pampered. We've stayed at probably 20 bnb's over the years and this is by far the best experience we've ever had.

It's not surprising to me to see so many 5 star reviews.

Just got back from Bellasvista B&B on 3/20/06.This is my 4th time to St. Thomas. It is by far the best place I've stayed at in the 4 years. Cannot find one thing negative!! The food, service, hostess, facilities were all excellent. A true gem! This lady knows how to run a 1st class bed and breakfast. I want to live there!!! The bambooshay room is gorgeous, along with the entire house and property. I highly recommend and plan on bringing our 11 yr old son with us the next trip.

Bellavista is practically perfect in most every way. There are so many things to write about…where to start? Well, it all starts with Wendy, our most gracious hostess. She makes you feel special. I am not exaggerating when I say her breakfasts are the best I have ever had. Bellavista does not feel like a bed and breakfast, but rather a four room villa situated on the side of a mountain overlooking the beautiful harbor. All the rooms are lovely, but Bambooshay and Coquille Collage are larger and have balconies with ocean views. The rooms are delightfully decorated and “white glove” clean. The gardens and common areas are an oasis that provides for soothing relaxation. Their website provides an excellent overview with good photos.

Bellavista is not a beach resort. But, the beaches are a quick taxi ride away. It is an easy 5 minute walk down the hill to the center of Charlotte Amalie and all the shopping and restaurants. After a meal, the walk UP the hill is a little bit of a workout.

On this trip, we stayed three days at the highest end beach resort and then ended our trip with three days at Bellavista. Next time we will spend our entire stay at Bellavista. It was the most enjoyable lodging experience we have ever had.
