Our last night was here after a week camping on St John. Had a great room overlooking the pool and the entire harbor down below. The pool was very nice and relaxing and the room very comfortable with a fridge and microwave. They serve a very nice little continental breakfast as well. Not easy to find. You see the sign for it but when you are coming from Megans Bay... you have gone too far.
Now, back to the view. WOW! Everywhere in the place has a great view.
Downtown Charlotte Amalie is a hot mess. This is a little oasis from all the hustle and bustle.

My boyfriend and I stayed at the Mafolie for one night following a week on St John, as we needed to catch an early flight out in the morning. We booked one of the better rooms, and while the accommodations were nothing fancy, they were absolutely fine for a night's sleep. As mentioned in other reviews, the view really is just incredible, and I would stay again for this alone. The staff were also very friendly and helpful with any queries or requests we had.

My friends and I recently went on a sailing trip around the Virgin Islands (check out Tara Vana - Rick and Miss Charters - they are the best) and needed to stay in St. Thomas for a night. I actually stayed two. I arrived late on Friday night and after checking in to my very basic, bare bones room, headed to the bar in hopes of finding some food. The desk agent was there along with a few guests and eventually the owner - if felt very friendly, safe and comfortable which is important for a single gal traveling alone before her friends arrived. The views are AMAZING from every room which more than makes up for any lacking in the accommodations. It's not the Marriott people! The restaurant is quite good and also has a surprisingly good wine selection.
We spent the next day lounging at the pool which, yes, is small, but again - that view! Laura took great care of us mixing cocktails and serving us poolside. Oh and they have two cats - one with only 3 legs called (aptly) Tripod. I happen to love cats and he bedded down in my room the last night.

If you're staying a couple nights at the front or back end of your vacation I would definitely recommend the Mafolie.

Well, where do you start? This hotel is a more of a bohemian type of hotel, which is good and not so good. The location is great as long as no one in your group is handicapped as it is all stairs, even to get into the units bathroom (which is very, very small). But the view is one of the best in all of St. Thomas. The hotel is old but clean, the crank out windows in our suite were broken off in the open position so the AC just barely kept the room cool, which was ok since it wasn't terribly hot, the TV didn't work, the window treatments were more like old rags.
The bed rattan frame felt like it was falling apart when we finally laid down and the mattress was one of the worst I ever (tried) to sleep on. The pool was clean but they were laying new tiles on the pool deck, so noisy. The restaurant service was fair and the food was just "ok" but don't order the crab cakes, they are horrible. YOUR IN THE CARRIBEAN SO IT IS WHAT IT IS : )
