My husband and I were in St Thomas on an Oasis of the Seas cruise for his 60th Birthday, and in fact St Thomas that day he did turn 60, We took a taxi to Blackbeard's Castle only to find it closed which was a real bummer (hello there are cruise ships in port and it is summer) and this put a real damper on our day, or so we thought. I had researched before we left home and wanted to see Hotel 1829, and wow, all of a sudden our day was fantastic. Hotel 1829 is full of history and when you have a drink in the old bar (which was the original kitchen complete with hearth still there) and speak to the amazing Doug our barman, you will be filled with stories of the original ship wreck there and history from almost 200 years ago, plus the odd ghost rumour!! Hotel 1829 is old, cute, quaint and definitely worth a visit. Try a drink there called "Blackbeard's Revenge"...wow, has it got a kick!!!
