We stayed at Morning Star from Oct. 15-25 for our honeymoon. I was a bit concerned given some of the previous reviews, but let me assure you that this is a wonderful place to stay! The room at Morning Star was very nice, and we had a nice ocean view and a short walk to the beach. We spent most of our days at the pools, and found both to be great, with nice lounge chairs and umbrellas to provide shade. Both pools also have iguanas, which we found fun, but some guests were quite alarmed by them (they're 2 to 3 feet long and some have learned to approach guests to get fruit from their drinks!), so if you are scared of big lizards, be aware that they are around the pools, on the sidewalks and outdoor stairs, etc.
We ate at all the restaurants (except Windows on the Harbor) and found the food to range from very good to excellent, with only a few things we didn't like (they weren't prepared poorly, they just didn't match our preferences). We spent virtually the entire time at the hotel, so the all-inclusive plan was a godsend--it cost us less than half of what the food and drink charges would have been. Breakfast and lunch were around $25 each per person, frozen drinks $7 or $8 each (plus tip), and dinner from two anywhere from $50 to $200. Service at the restaurants tended to be a bit slow but generally good and friendly. We even had service at the pool most days. When the service was slow (one waitress covering the beach and the pool, so it's no wonder), we simply walked the 100 feet to the bar--no worries. Most of the staff was very nice, and some that served us repeatedly (such as our wonderful pool waitress, Danielle) learned our names and preferences and even got to know us a little.
We had an incredibly relaxing time, and we definitely plan on returning to Morning Star soon. That being said, there are some problems that Marriott should work to correct, mainly involving the lack of information provided to guests. The information in the daily bulletin on restaurant hours and events was wrong every day we were there (such as listing the wrong restaurant open for breakfast, and listing a special buffet as being at Windows on the Harbor, which is closed for remodeling), and different but also wrong information was displayed on the Marriott TV channels. Also, there was no information on special happenings, such as bands playing live at the main hotel in the evenings. We could (and did) call the main number to ask for clarification when needed, but it seems like it would be very easy for Marriott to fix this. Again, compared to how wonderful everything else was, the information snafus are minor.
