“Great Stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 9, 2012

My boyfriend and I went on a trip to the Virgin Islands. Our first stop was St. Thomas. When we arrived, there seem to be some sort of convention going on so our room was not yet ready. We didn't care, we flew all the way from DC to get away from the cold so we were just happy to be there. The hotel apologized for the delay and offered us free unlimited drinks at the bar while we waited! One of the hosts was very nice and we asked her about where the locals ate because we are such foodies. She was very helpful in directing us where to go.

I think due to being so understanding and laid back for our room being delayed, they offered us an upgrade to a room in one of the villas on the beach instead! Score!

The amenities were your typical resort. It was more geared to families but me and my boyfriend were barely there since we were exploring the island most of the time. However, our room was clean and the staff was very friendly.

We booked this through CheapCarribean.com and got a great deal for airfare and room plus money we could eat at the restaurants at the resort which were excellent ! The only drawback was that you had to get a taxi to get anywhere but it was only $10 per person . I have been to Hawaii but I love the USVI and the BVI more . They are beautiful and the water is a color you will never forget! Island hopping is so much fun and not expensive at all. You have to have a passport to go the British Virgin Islands. There are big iguanas there also but they do not bother you .. The fish and seafood is so fresh and good! I plan on going back every year. Loved it here !!

Beautiful hotel...modern decor with stunning views. Service was good, although there was a mishap upon checking in. Our reservation was incorrect (one king bed instead of two queens) but the manager gladly made the change. I loved the complimentary pitchers of ice water w/lemon and orange slices in the lobby as well as the rum punch. Nice touch.

I do question how a $48 million renovation project did not include adequate ventiliation. Our bathroom did not have an exhaust fan and there was a very obvious moldy smell in the hallways. I was also disappointed in the size of the television...not a big deal especially considering you spend very little time in your room.

The resort is extremely pricey and the food is subpar if that, except for breakfast in the main restaurant....excellent! I would stay in the hotel again but with an upgraded room. I suggest venturing out and eating at the local restaurants. There are plenty of taxis to take you.

Loved this Marriott property. We stayed at the Morning Star Beach in a Garden View room. Wow! Made no difference that we didn't have an ocean view. It was still fabulous. Any room there is fine as shuttles will take you between properties every 5 minutes or so. This lets you enjoy any of the restaurants, beaches or pools at all three properties. We think the beach at Frenchmans' Cove, the time-share area, was the best although at that location you don't get towels or free snorkel gear.
If you're going there, try to make it a 5 or 6 night stay. It's a bit of a trip getting there so day 1 doesn't allow much to do other than enjoy the property. We had dinner the first night at the Sunset Grill. Wonderful view and great food. After that tried the Agua Terra grill. An even better view at night. You get the ocean and Charlotte Amalie. Spectacular at night.
So we did Coki beach and Coral World. Shopping one other day and one day at the beach. Then it was over. So you need a few more days to do St. John's, touring the town etc.
We'll go back next year maybe??

Room Tip: Depends on what you want to spend.......I can tell you a town view doesn't sound as nice as an o...

my kids and i stayed at the Marriot Frenchman's Morning Star Beach and Resort for just 24hrs and it was wonderful ( the Ritz was full). The last time i slept in total comfort, was the few nights i stayed in the Hospital after giving birth to my son ( now six months). i reverted to staying at Morning star after reading a few bad reviews about SugarBay in St. Thomas. The rooms were CLEAN,cozy, and comfortable especially the down pillows and down blankets. The few staff i met while there ( espeically the pregnant clerk), were very pleasant. The only downfall i faced were, my next door neighbor decided to put his/her dinner plates in front of my room door ( this was remove and i spoke to the manager), the ice machine did not quit make any ice, a bee flew into my room after maintence came to look into my air condtioner, and the Manager on duty breaking my sleep just to make sure my stay was comfortable. He must of called 4-5 time...LOL. I stayed for 24hrs because my sister in law found a room at a lower rate. i wish i never left MorningStar. it is best to pay for comfort.I would stay again and recommend to friends and family

Room Tip: the garden view is also wonderful, but not to close the bar

This hotel was a great place to stay! We received many perks based on the time we booked the hotel. We received a free night as well as breakfast included every day of our stay. My husband and I stayed in Morning Star which was fantastic. Morning Star is less "hotel-like" and more of like staying in a private villa. Even though our room was a Garden View room, as soon as you walk out the door, you're on the sand of the beach. There were lots of "freebies" like chairs, umbrellas, beach towels, snorkel sets, kayaks, etc. The beach was beautiful and clean. It was not very crowded, so we were able to find two lounge chairs every visit. There is a water ferry service from the hotel to Charlotte Amalie which was convenient, as well as a taxi service to and from the hotel and anywhere on the island. The only drawback was that the restaurants are pricey. However, all the rooms have a refrigerator, so take advantage of that!

We stayed in a ground level beach hut at Marriott's Frenchman's Reef and Morning Star resort from August 4th to 6th, 2012. The resort location was very good and safe--exactly what we expected, but the level of service we experienced was very poor.

Specifically:

1. Room Service. On our last night we returned to our room at 9:30pm to find that room service had not left an order form for the next morning's in-room breakfast, so we called the desk to ask for one to be delivered. Obtaining one took two additional telephone calls and ninety minutes of waiting. When the food arrived the next morning it was on time but it was incomplete, which required yet another phone call. (I suppose this could be considered an improvement over the first morning, when our room service breakfast arrived more than an hour late--and was incomplete.)

2. Charges. When we went to check out we noticed that a number of charges were incorrect and were not incurred by us. These included a local phone call (about $2.50), two gift shop purchases (about $90 in total), and two additional room charges (about $180). These charges were removed without argument as soon as we contested them—and the person we talked to couldn't have been nicer about it—but the ease with which these were zeroed out left us questioning the integrity of the whole charging system. How much managerial control can there be when almost $300 of invalid charges are added to a bill?

In our real lives nuisances are to be expected, but on a relatively expensive vacation they are not. As a result, we won’t be returning to Marriott's Morning Star resort.

Room Tip: In the beach-side huts choose the upper floor. We were kept awake until 2am by the upper-floor occu...
