The day on the water with Ocean was the best part of a great week! After a lunch in Charlotte Amalie on a day when the cruise ships hit town, we needed a reminder of what makes the islands so special...and got it in spades. You could tell setting up the day that Ocean was a great host. He asked lots of questions and tailored our outing to our interests. Catania herself is stunning, an old-school vessel with great character.
At our first stop, Danny took our family on a guided reef tour, pointing out some of the easy-to-miss details. In all, we made three stops, each reef a little different. Lunch was simple, delicious and plentiful (even with three hungry boys (21, 20 & 17)! We waited until the cruise home to sample the painkillers, which were the best we had all week. The cruising itself was perfect, narrated by Ocean and Danny with local history and lore. It was clearly not a scripted tour. The conversation bounced around according to our interests and questions. [Hint: when you go, make sure to get Ocean started on Catania's history.]
When all was said and done, Ocean gave us some ideas about other things to do and places to go. He even recommended a place for my boys to surf and arranged with them to leave his own boards for them to borrow. You will not find a better outfit for a cruise anywhere at any price!
