“Great View, Great Price!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 13, 2013

I stayed here alone on my first night in the island, before my husband arrived the next day and we went to our resort. It was an excellent place to stay! The room was very clean and comfortable, the staff was friendly and accommodating, and the restaurant was good (the drinks were great!). I had a good time walking down the stairs to town and back up again! The Castle itself was a lot of fun to go up into, and I loved all of the sculptures of pirates on the grounds! I would stay here again, and recommend it to others.

We were after something cheap and clean for a one night stay between flights. This place was perfect. Located up on the hill overlooking the harbour, the rooms were spacious and clean, with a small but more than adequate balcony. Our room overlooked downtown Charlotte Amelie and the harbour. One slight hiccup was at checkin. The external door to the property, that was ordinarily closed, was wide open, so we walked in and located the managers office, but there was no one around, so we waited for a while, but no one came. We saw our paperwork on the table with the key attached, and as we had prepaid the reservation, decided to take the key and sort out "check-in" later. On the way out, we couldnt find our room, so walked around the small courtyard to find someone to direct us to our room. The chap we found was none too impressed that we took the key, but nor were we impressed that the secure door was wide open and that we were waiting for 10-15 minutes to check in, when a simple sign on the door could have prevented the problem. Breakfast the next morning, was small but adequate. The manager, Adam, is fantastic, and nothing was too much trouble. He gave us lots of advice on places to see and things to do, and he makes the best cocktails. Another small point is the pool..... its large and could be very nice, but it needs to be painted (which they know about) and could do with a bit of a clean as there was a bit of "scum" located on the tiles at the waters edge and some leaves in the water etc. Adam opened up the "closed during low season" tower which was great but there are other properties at the inn that remain closed. I understand why they are closed, but it would be nice if they could be opened for guests at specified times for people like me that are interested in seeing them. Other than these few gripes, this place is absolutely spot on and I would not hesitate staying here again next year.

Room Tip: we were in one of the west facing rooms and it had a really nice view.

First off , I'm not one for forking out a bunch for a room I'm only going to be sleeping in. The view here was stunning, the grounds are beautiful, the staff was great and the price was the best I found on the island. we stayed 3 nights before continuing on to St. John. Our room was simple, but clean and comfortable. We walked the stairs to town and had dinner at Gladys one night and felt very safe. Took the dollar bus to Linquist beach (very beautiful) and spent the day. A call by Adam the next morning had a cab waiting for us for our ride over to Megan's Bay where we spent the day swimming and relaxing. Adam, Mike and Tony were the best hosts, full of information and knew how mix some mean cocktails as well as cooking up some juicy burgers.
Don't miss out on the walking tour as it is included in the price of your stay.

The view from my balcony of Charlotte Amalie and the bay was stunning. There were loads of things to do from The Inn, and it was a spot on the walking tour, so someone could easily find something to do here. Also, walking to town was quick and fairly easy, as you just follow the signs down to 99 Steps, then down the steps and into town (it's the walk back up that can be a little tiring). Last but not least, Adam, the daytime bartender, was incredibly helpful and gave me a number of pointers on how to get around (99 Steps) and things to do in town.

Had a two night stay planned for this weekend. Came down with the flu, very contagious and elevated temp, etc. Offered to show them hospital physician excuse. Hotel would NOT let us change our reservation to another weekend, said it was "their policy" to charge us our first night's fee. We tried to explain that we didn't want our money back...just the opportunity to reschedule...didn't want to make the entire hotel sick...but no such customer service as it was "against their policy". Very short sighted on their part as we will never stay there again and will tell everyone on St. Croix to "stay away". So, unless you can be sure that you will make it there and have no chance of getting sick...beware, they will keep your money!

BlackbeardsCastle, Manager at The Inn at Blackbeard's Castle, responded to this review, June 1, 2013
Good day and thank you for your feedback regarding the Inn at Blackbeard’s Castle. St. Thomas is a lovely island with many fantastic attractions to visit. There is however, only one hotel that has a National Historical Landmark, breathtaking panoramic views, and staff dedicated to the guest’s needs. The scores of reviews naming the enthusiastic team at Blackbeard’s Castle is an accurate reflection of the intimate level of customer service provided on the historical colonial property.

The Inn at Blackbeard’s Castle meets and exceeds the industry standards regarding the reservation and cancelling procedures set forth by the International Hospitality Association (IHA Industry Standards Section 2.2.2). These standards are observed by most hotels world-wide.

Full details of the reservation and cancellation policies of the Inn at Blackbeard’s Castle are clearly stated. This includes information about charging credit cards for cancellation or changes to the booking. Additionally clearly stated is information about deposits including details of how the deposit is taken and whether or not it is refundable on cancellation as well as the terms.

In this situation, a cancellation which is made the day before the expected arrival does not meet the Inn at Blackbeard’s Castle’s cancellation policy for a refund nor can the company hold a future reservation at an unknown date. It is the Inn at Blackbeard’s Castle’s policy to maintain the same standards for all guests.

Visitors to St. Thomas will find true paradise at the Inn at Blackbeard’s Castle. Our friendly and helpful team awaits your arrival!

We had booked at Blackbeard's for two nights before heading to the BVI's. We had a great stay with great service other than one issue (which held back our rating of 5). The location is central to downtown and the BVI ferry. The rooms were comfortable with a nice view of the City. The grounds were nice and the bar had a great view of the harbor. Both evening bartenders Michael and Tony were friendly and accommodating. Unfortunately the only problem with our stay was that we checked in during the day and we were hungry . The daytime bartender Adam would not grill for us and stated we had to wait for Michael. We were somewhat puzzled by this. But truth be known both Michael and Tony are excellent grill cooks. I would recommend staying here and would again when we return to the Islands.

Our stay at Blackbeard's Castle was wonderful. The service by Adam was beyond amazing. He was helpful in finding us a place to eat and good advice on getting around the downtown area.
The room was lovely, bed comfortable, a/c much appreciated after a week of heat with no A/C, and view beyond compare.
For the people who have stated they felt they were in a bad area of town I'd say that you have to be cautious in any city where you are a stranger. I felt safe through the day and at night, take a cab. It's the south....be cautious.
We were only there for one night but would have been happy to stay for a week.
