“the house was a rockin'”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 8, 2014

After a great meal of steak and main lobster on New Year's Eve, Why Not rocked the house with some ole time rock and roll! A great time was had by all....we danced the night away, and sang along to some really great tunes. And for those that didn't dance...... there were toes tappin' and fingers snappin'!
Let's do that AGAIN!!!

“Local cuisine, local characters and music”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 7, 2014

This is not a cookie cutter type of restaurant. It really is a yacht club bar with music that happens to have good local Caribbean cuisine. The location is sublime. You have to drive down some local roads with awesome potholes and then a dirt road to get to this restaurant. It is open air and on the water facing Red Hook. All the seats have a view of the water. The restaurant is dominated by a stage that hosts live music 7 nights a week. The band we saw was named Flip Switch and was very entertaining. It was an interesting mix of a lead singer who sounded just like Sheryl Crow; a lead guitar that acted like Keith Richards with a shaved head; a base guitar that looked like a defensive end for the Colts and a drummer who looked like he came out of a retirement home in Illinois. The food has some authentic Caribbean cuisine such as Caribbean Roti which is a light curry flavored concoction of either vegetables, chicken or shrimp mixed with Garbanzo beans, chick peas and mango chutney. You can get a Trinidadian hot sauce that is very spicy (my wife had that one). This is all mixed together and wrapped in Roti bread that is like a fried tortilla. They also have "Caribbean Bakes" that are meats laid on bread with lettuce, tomato and a garlic cilantro sauce that is then baked. We did not have this item. My wife had Key Lime cake which was excellent. I had the coconut cream pie with rum glaze which was more like a flour- less cake but was very good. They also have burgers, sandwiches and chicken. The setting on the water with ferries in Red Hook coming and going and the live music make for a fun evening. It is more for adults and not for children. It has a Jimmy Buffet kind of ambiance. Lulu was our waitress and was very friendly and accommodating.

“average at best”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 1, 2014

limited menu and they were out of a few items - average describes: the food, the atmosphere, the staff - not easy to get to and not sure it is worth the effort. live music the night we were there was Barefoot Davis - entertaining band capable of island music as well as rock n roll - fun band

“Hard to find but worth the effort”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 30, 2013

It took us a week to find this restaurant/bar but it was worth the effort. Latitude 18 is across the harbor from the American Yacht Harbor and the last 1/4 mile was dirt road but the food is very good, the drinks inexpensive and the atmosphere laid-back. Great place to chill out, look at the boats and enjoy the afternoon.
