Just spent a day out on Rumbaba with Chad and Lori exploring the islands and cays. We've done a number of activities while on St Thomas and the Rumbaba sail was a great choice.
Chad and Lori started us off right with homemade banana bread. Then we headed out to St. John and Hawks Nest Beach for some first-quality snorkeling time. The fish and the coral and other inverts are colorful and plentiful. Had the waterproof camera and snapped some pictures of staghorn corals and brain corals that were just remarkable. The water is sapphire blue, warm and crystalline clear. The crew gave us all the time we wanted and provided interesting background info regarding the islands, their geology and history.
After the snorkel, Lori and Chad served up lunch that was as good as anything (and better than most) we have had on St. Thomas. Fresh, perfectly cooked fish, including a fantastic ahi. The mango curry dip recipe is worth stealing, but they provided that recipe and recipes for all the other dishes they served at the end of the trip.
Rumbaba is a clean, good sailing boat and Chad skippers her well. Lori has lived on St. Thomas for over 20 years and will tell you great stories about the locals and the off-the-tourist-path spots. She also had plenty of opportunity to show off her bartending skills. Excellent rum punch.
We had time for a second snorkeling stop off St. Johns, which was equally impressive. Then it was a comfortable sail downwind to the marina.
This was an excellent trip and a very worthwhile way to spend a day enjoying the beauty of the USVI. Highly recommended.
