The unit in which we stayed over several visits (C-28) provides plenty of room and closet space (you can put your suitcases out of sight). It is newly renovated: the kitchen boasts a large refrigerator, a new stove, a microwave and a separate toaster oven. A black granite island, part of the open-plan kitchen/living room, is big enough to serve meals upon. There is a TV in both rooms. There are two baths, wherein the sink areas are decorated with fish scale-colored tiles. There is air conditioning as well as ceiling fans. There is a washer and dryer.
There is housekeeping service (at additional cost) that you can depend on. The unflagging Norma and her team provide the best. This service can also take care of your daily beach towels, and probably even your personal laundry (ask). Also, the unit's owners are responsive to guests' concerns.
Since this property is not a hotel, there is no room service. However, you can order from near-by (not walking distance) restaurants (obviously not 24-hour). But I find it best to just stock up on your provisions. That said, probably you won't be eating at home much, since St .Thomas has many restaurants you'll want to visit. Food prices, whether groceries or dining out, are comparable to Manhattan food prices.
There is a little out door burger (including veggie) bar down the beach in the Sapphire condos area that you can walk to for lunch. However, it can be low on food sometimes, because STT is an island, and so, depends upon air and sea delivery of necessities. Sometimes there is a kink in the pipeline. But that's island life. (In fact, one evening one of the island's most raved-about and pricey restaurants couldn't serve me a Dark and Lovely because their supply of ginger beer had not shown up.)
Back to the unit: it has an open porch where you can sit and enjoy the breeze. The view looks out onto a serene lagoon beyond which is the ocean. The sunrise is long, usually through lazy cloud banks. (And, if you are so inclined, the "..red skies at morning, sailor's warning" adage actually works!) And the sunset is swift. Boom, the sun falls behind the hills and, as Coleridge wrote, "the stars rush out."
The beach, at a three-minute walk, is lovely. It can bustle in high season, or when a cruise ship ferries over a platoon of its passengers. But generally it is relaxing. (Note: room tariffs are cheaper in low season; it is also quieter.)
There is no beach scene by Crystal Cove; most people are there for the peace and quiet (the volley ball net is down the beach at Sapphire). The water is calm, too, by oceanic measure unless there's a storm approaching. And then it's fun to watch the windsurfers who appear as if by magic. There's some nice snorkeling off the beach, although it must be admitted that coral bleaching has made its impact here, as in the rest of the world. I can only hope this phenomenon has reached its planetary nadir. The USVI's coral, by my observation, is stubborn and held on through the early onslaught of bleaching. So, perhaps, when the tide turns it will quickly regenerate.
There is a dive shop a few steps down the beach. (You can even rent a windsurfer here.) The waters accessible from St. Thomas for SCUBA have some interesting sites, which include natural formations as well as wrecks. There are oodles of small and big fish and other critters to see including several varieties of shark. I may be exceptionally lucky in seeing sharks (I even saw a hammerhead off Barbados) but the USVI waters seem to have an abundance of nurse, lemon and blacktip. You often hear that if you see a shark while diving, you are very lucky. You can see plenty of fish while snorkeling, too: the ubiquitous and hardy sergeant majors, yellowtail snappers, tangs and parrot fish.
There are fewer parrots now that the coral has thinned out, and I haven't seen clusters of squirrels nor cardinals for a while. The brain coral that was over on the right side of the beach has died out. But the sea urchin population is hanging on. And , back on land, the ghost crabs industriously scuttle and dig on the beach in the late afternoon.
