We have a timeshare and decided to stay here. We were here 10/23-10/30. We had excellent flights there and back. Only had 1 piece of luggage missing on arrival but was there by morning. We were suppose to be in a 1 bedroom studio with 1 1/2 baths. The 1st 2 nights we were in a studio loft. WE used points for a 1 bedroom and the front desk stated they are all 1 bedroom and all have only 1 bath. I think the front desk needs to tour the buildings. We did get things our way and had our 1 bedroom, 1 1/2 bath the rest of the week. Here we go: The 2 different unit buildings we were in were clean, well equipped and cold air conditioning. Yes there is an energy surcharge but we kept our air on 24/7. The kitchen had everything even a blender for our pina colatas. We enjoyed many meals there. We even used the grill with coals we picked up at K-mart . Its nice to use the grill near the ocean and sit around drinking while we cook. There are tables down there so you can really sit on the beach and eat. WE brought a cooler from home with meats, cheese, frozen bags of milk, we even food sealed scramble eggs with ham, pepper and onions. We brought lunch meats and packed many lunches for our trips on the island. They have plenty of icemachines there. We had another piece of luggage with dry staples and snacks. the convience of having it was great. We didn't over pack and had plenty of room for souviners on the way back.
The Grounds: the beautiful foilage, trees, cacti, the beach, you can't ask for a more beautiful place. They are doing a lot and actually are really updating things there. I look forward to seeing it done in the near furture. Lots of iguanas there and sea life.
activites: there really isn't anything happening there. We sat at the pool bar 1x. the rest of time we sat on the beach with our own cooler- alcohol is cheapest at Kmart. The Pool was nice but the beach is the best. We brought our own beach floats and floated on the water with our blow up cooler floaty. Didn't even have to leave the water to get a new drink. Yes NOEL was there for 3 days with no sun but we still swam, went to St. Johns, and snorkeled. I even saw and had my PX. taken with Matt Perry at Mountain Top. We wanted to go back with the family in June but there are no openings so we will be going June 09. ANy questions e-mail me. We did a lot of things in 1 week. Duffy Love shack was our favorite place. As far as bugs go... I seen 1 fly in our condo the whole time. I did get a few bites like the past px. posted. I had bug spray with me 24/7. The sand fleas and no seeums were bad there after the rains. Guess this past posting attracts bugs(sweet blood?)

“WARNING: most disappointing trip ever”

Bluebeard's Beach Club and Villas

This is a must read if you plan on going to this resort!!!

I just got back to Colorado from this resort yesterday and wanted to post something for people thinking about going to this resort. as soon as possible. There honestly are only a few positives from this trip so I shall start there.

What you have read about the bartender at the pool is true, the guy is great. Very helpful in assisting local restaurants and even gave some friends of ours a ride to one to help save on cab fare. They now have shuttles that take you to certain places each day of the week to assist you in your experience. We got there late Saturday and used their shuttle service to go to the grocery store on Sunday afternoon. Sunday they also have their activity person come in and schedule trips for you to take if you like.

The snorkeling wasn't really that bad there like someone else stated. They have rocks on each side of the private beach. The fish are plentiful on the right side and not too bad on the left either. Our friends saw a sand or reef shark on the left hand side and we saw three different rays the following day on the left hand side of the beach. Many people got stung by jellyfish but they had medicine at the resort to cure the sting of the pain.

The beach was ok but other areas had nicer beaches to go to as for the sand quality was better. There was always chairs and hammocks available and they even groomed the beach Thursday morning.

Mr Nice Guy taxi was really cool. We got to know him well because we never wanted to be at the resort and we did not rent a car. The owner, about 6/5 275, always picked us up and was always on time if not 5 minutes early. I can understand why other people complain about taxi rates but that is the way the entire island is. We literally were picked up, taken to a restaurant about 5 minutes away, and returned back to our place and the cost was $24. To us though it was cheaper that renting a car and dealing with the drivers on the island who are absolutely nuts. I do not want to elaborate for that I am concentrating on the resort for my critique.

Well hoped you liked the positives because here comes the negatives:

The comments about bed bugs is true. I currently have roughly 100 bites/bumps on my body and my wife has about 75. Mine are on my feet, legs, arms, hands, shoulders, neck, back, and sides. My head is the only safe spot. Attached is a picture of my leg. We stayed in Complex A and ran into multiple people in complex A&B that looked worse than us. Complex A&B are definitely the older part of the resort and do not resemble the pictures on their website. Our tile was gray in color that was very dirty and the air conditioner was loud and noisy. Complex C and above are much nicer that do resemble their website pictures but they too have plenty of bugs. One couple we ran into from the D complex said they say fleas on their dishes. I would assume that they are sand fleas but who knows. The bug bites are all different sizes which leads me to believe that the bites are from multiple different types of insects/bugs

We arrived late Saturday night and check in wasn't that bad considering the person was checking in three couples at once. The problem started when we got to our room. The balcony door's drapes were hanging and not attached at the top. We called the front desk Sunday,Monday, Wednesday morning and it finally was fixed Thursday by accident. The maintenance person arrived at our door expecting to fix a leaky tub, so in my opinion he showed up at the wrong door by accident. Although he did fix the curtain in less than 30 minutes.

The restaurant staff are rude as can be. There really is no point saying good afternoon or good evening because they don't say it back (unfortunately most of the island is like this). We went Sunday night and there was a total of four tables being used and two different servers working. The prices are too much for the quality of food you get. After she took our our dinner plates away (signaling we were either done or wanting desert) we didn't see her for 10 or so minutes. I decided to go use the restroom and she was watching the other server gamble at the slot machines. SWEET! hopefully this gives you a good idea of the staff.

The pool is really small and they really don't have a lot of room to lay down there for that 20-25 chairs maxes out the area. Just below the pool is the endangered crab village area with nothing but standing water that looks more like sewage. this was an insect paradise and utterly disgusting. If I was a crab living in this area I would want someone to cook me and eat me.

The air hockey table is extremely weathered and unplayable and the pool table is quite comical. The cue ball has an obscene amount of chucks in it but somehow rolls without hopping on the table.

Review:
I will not be going back to this resort nor this island ever again. I honestly do not think their is a dollar amount one could give us to persuade us back to this resort. The overall experience was a major disappointment and my next call will be to Interval International (our timeshare company) to complain to them as well.

Side Note:
Do go to the Banana Tree restaurant at Bluebeard Castle. One of the top three restaurants on the island and about a 3 minute drive to get there. Expect to spend over $100 for the meal but wow is it worth it. Also, go to Gladys's downtown for lunch sometime. A great atmosphere as well as food. We went there on the shuttle service for downtown shopping.

We returned home this past Saturday after a week-long stay at Bluebeard's Beach Resort. Overall, it was a wonderful experience. It's conveniently located (close to town...for shopping and food!). We had a studio unit with kitchen and a balcony with great ocean view. The room itself was adequate for a weeklong stay. The only minor problem we had at the beginning of our stay is that the TV had less channels than what it's suppose to have based on their channel listings. However, this was corrected around mid-week and this is not really the resort's fault. I agree with the prior reviews about the attitude of some of the staff though...they were not really friendly (and I said some because one of them is helpful enough to allow me to use the office internet to reconfirm my flight on my departure date). I also agree that they should remove or reduce the $9/day per person surcharge. I didn't get the chance to eat at the restaurant nor did I meet Mr. Nice Guy...we rented a car and I highly recommend doing this.

The resort ground, I believe, was well-kept. I loved all the iguanas and the cats frolicking around the grounds. The hammock on the beach was perfect...it was so comfortable. The beach itself is okay...kind of rocky and stronger current compared to Magens Bay beach or Coki beach.

I will definitely go back to this resort and am glad I switched here instead of staying at the Galleon House hotel where I was originally booked. This resort is a great base for exploring St. Thomas and the surrounding Virgin Islands.

my wife and i visited on our honeymoon and after visiting several other resorts when we were there it is my opinion the beach is
one of the nicest around and the view from your room balcony is great.... as far a taxi drivers go mr. nice guy taxi is the best on
the island he was wonderful very talkative about st thomas
or anything else was very fare about his rates and when he said he would be there to pick you up he was there on time and waiting with a smile he was great... the snorkle cruise by new horizons is a very affordable all day adventure and was worth every penny do your self a favor and do it, the crew is fantastic and the snorkeling was great. the staff at the front desk are rude
but take it for what its worth not all were rude but some of the front desk women need to get another career because dealing with the people they stink but i would go back and stay again
the $9.00 per person per day electric surcharge is a joke
and they should consider dropping that bogus charge that was a
got you and was not appreciated by all the guest i talked with

I recently visited this resort and was shocked to see a few of the reviews that were posted. I went to stay there for a few days in June, but this was my 7th year of visiting this resort and each year I have enjoyed it more than the time before. The resort has changed hands and they are absolutely making changes to make it a better place. I was also shocked to read that there were some negative thoughts about "Mr. Nice Guy" taxi service. We have been riding around that island with him for the past 7 years and we have always been very happy. He is so cool and makes very good recommendations for activites and restaurants. I can't figure out how someone would think that he has the personality of a bucket of sand. He has always been our favorite.
