We've stayed here several times over the last 6 years, we either stay here or Caneel Bay on St John. I LOVE Emerald Beach, regardless of what room you end up with, they're all beachfront and have a private balcony. The view is absolutely breathatking. You are so close to the ocean that when you wake up in the morning and your room is quiet you can actually hear the waves. The restaurant on site leaves much to be desired but they do a decent job with the free breakfast and the friday night west indian buffet is good. Plan to eat out all other meals though. Pizza delivery is an option as well.
The price of the hotel just cant be beat, especially for an ocean front hotel. Im always sad to leave!
Front desk staff kind be a little on the surly side.

We were quite hesitant to book this hotel based on some of the previous reviews, so with that trepidation we were pleasantly surprised by this hotel when we checked. Make no mistake this isn't the Ritz, but neither is the price. We needed a couple of nights accomodation before departing for a cruise and it was perfect. The room on the 2nd floor overlooking the bay was large, efficient and clean. The staff was friendly and helpful. Food was fine for what you were paying. The beach is outstanding, a real gem. So what's not to like - the airport, planes and lot's of them are taking off and landing right over the hotel during the day, night was quiet. Based on this more than a couple of days might get on your nerves, but for a couple of days and at this price, this was a real good find.

Traveling to VI for the first time on a limited budget with The Guy. We chose this hotel for the price, not bad reputation, and the good reviews on Trip Advisor. Booked directly through BW with the AAA discount.

I found the room to be pretty good. Not four star mind you, but adequate. There is a mini fridge, but no microwave. Flat screen TV, but few channels. The A/C is great, but loud. The sheets were clean and the bed was large, but the mattress was concave and the pillows a little too soft. The floors are tile - which given the amount of sand that tracks in, is a good idea. Maid service will make the bed, sweep up the floor, and replace towels, soap, etc., but they never cleaned the dead mosquitos off the mirror.

You are located right on the beach so pounding surf is your constant companion. The views are to DIE for and the beach isn't bad. Beach towels are available at the front desk. The airport noise can be a bit jarring during the day, but it drops off at night and ends completely at 11pm. I found the hotel staff VERY helpful and friendly. There was one not-so-great person who was about on par with every other front desk worker I've ever met. She stood out because she wasn't as above average. The hotel boutique is run by a professional diver type , but opens late and closes early.

There is little background noise in the room, so things tend to echo a bit too much. The rooms are all non-smoking, but that does not apply to porches, the bar, or the beach. We did have maintenance issues - which were handeled promptly. Though it took two complaints to fix the porch door (repeated complaints are very bad in their book). Our issues with the safe required being there with the engineer for liability reasons. The internet was down for most of our stay, but was eventually fixed. Since I didn't choose the hotel for connectivity - this wasn't an issue.

The staff tends not to tell you the amenities available, so be sure to read through the hotel binder when you check in. You will have mosquitos. This is a fact of life on the island. Take your OFF! and spray around thresholds and in the closet. Keep the drapes pulled after dusk and limit the number of lights you leave on at night. The hotel is located near the airport - but away from most tourist destinations and eateries. Cabs and open-air busses are easily gotten, and there is plenty of rental car parking. Plan meals in advance, or eat at the hotel (dinner starts at 6 and is wall to wall pasta. I have wheat issues and never ate there).

Also, Very Important, do NOT stay at this hotel on a Friday night. The Hotel Next Door has Karaoke on the beach from 7-11 every Friday with the mic amps turned all the way up. The sound carries up and down the beach, drowing out everything including the surf. I coudn't think for all noise and ended up crying hysterically rather than enjoying my last night in paradise. I told BW Management about it, but there is little they can do and the Hotel Next Door is unlikely to change.

Every winter I like to travel to where the palm trees grow, the beach is nice and the water calm. A nice view from the room is also a must. This hotel more than fills the bill. The cost is very acceptable, mainly as a result of location, location, location.

My wife surfs the net looking for a hidden gem of a place to stay and this is one of them. They are remodeling the rooms with new furniture while we were there. They also have installed grass umbrellas for the beach sun worshipers.

MY ONLY REGRET IS LETTING THIS INFORMATION OUT ON THE INTERNET. This time next year I may hope to stay there again. The number of rooms are limited.

The help in the restaurant area is excellent. We recognized several of the staff from a previous visit this time last year. They are friendly and will talk with you freely about the island.

The reason this is not rated excellent is the lack of urgent concern on the part of the front desk staff when asked for assist in finding remote for wall (flat screen) TV and in supplying wash clothes and hand towels for the room.

In fairness to the hotel, we were interested in checking in a bit early, and final inspection of the room may/may not have been completed. Note: 2nd night wash clothes were there, and employee found remote under dresser( located directly below TV).

Overall, sunsets are beautiful, we sit on the balcony and watch the cruise ships pull out of harbor just before dark and then visit the fine restaurant at the hotel with a terrific view of the bay for dinner.

Now as I sit at the computer a day after leaving the resort (imo), The image of the beautiful bay and beach remains vivid, hopefully until next time we can visit.

“Emerald Beach was Great!”

Best Western Emerald Beach

Dec 18, 2007

My husband and I stayed at the Best Western Emerald Bay for only one night on Dec.7th 2007. We were a bit hesitant after reading some of the other reviews. We were however very pleased with the hotel. The staff was friendly and the rooms were amazing. Each room has a huge balcony which overlooks the beach. The view was fabulous. The bed was comfortable and the room looked fresh and clean. We were very pleasantly surprised by this hotel. We will stay there again on our next visit and would be very comfortable for a weeks stay. We were off on a cruise the following day, but would recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a little gem in the Carribbean.....
