Just returned from a week at this HOTEL and wanted to review before forgot how poor the place really was. When the cat was eating from scraps on the bar and then from table tops later in the day....you can imagine why we did not eat at the advertised restaurant on the property.
Nearly all the amenities in the ads were "MISSING." No band, no chairs on man made sand spot 3-4' above the water behind a wall called a beach, plywood table tops on sand spot were splintered beyond use or repair, pool was very small and only cleaned once while we were there and then no chemicals, just a quick sweep job.
Maids were great and the room was clean...could see around all inside and outside doors but it kept the rain out and shower water was hot.
My complaint is that they advertised a resort with amenities such as beach, free breakfast, band, and then booked us in an old hotel which needs lots of work and had no frills Too far across the bay to use their resort and they charged $3 per each way to ride over and then only go 2 rd trips per day. The rude lady at the counter told me we were on our own, go over there and find out for yourself.
St. Thomas as an island is average for the Caribean, quite dirty roadsides, hovels, etc. One to four cruise boats are in harbor almost daily and 2-10K people go to the MANY jewelry shops on the wharf. The snorkeling was quite nice at Cokie Beach, but Sapphire, Secreat Harbor and Magens Bay were poor at best...we ended up purchasing an annual admission to Cokie and driving up there for our beach and snorkel everyday.
Use Hotwire to rent a car 1/3 the price of any others. Stay at the RESORT at Best Western not the hotel and plan to eat at fast food places..there are plenty of them, but you will need a car as the Taxi services charge per person and lots. $24 one way to go to resort from airport 1 mile away for 2 with 3 bags. Take your sun screen and wear a shirt snorkeling. Have fun, inspite of the accomodations, we had fun at St. Thomas...I guess we can make lemonade from lemons with the best of them.

  • Liked — Maid services tried to do the best with what they had to work with...
  • Disliked — cat on the table and bar in restaurant and cancelled activities
  • Tips/Secrets: — be sure you stay at the RESORT AND NOT THE HOTEL across the bay

This hotel is okay if you are staying a night. My Fiancee and I stayed in this hotel the night before we left to go back to the states. It served its purpose, the room was clean, the lobby was a bit dingy. The staff seemed new and foreign and I felt bad for them. The restaurant was good. The best part about this hotel is that you can walk to the airport in about 5 minutes. I would recommend this hotel if you are leaving early the next day because the airport in right next door. You wont here the planes taking off or landing.
Overall this hotel was okay - served it purpose - room was clean.

  • Liked — very close to the airport
  • Disliked — nothing to do in the area

As I write this reveiw I am sitting in the lobby of The Best Western Carib July 8, 2006 9.00am. I was yelled at by a waiter because I wanted breakfast. To quote" Go sit over there it will be a while". My familly and the couple behind me had just asked if we could sit any where for breakfast. Everyone in line left. My room was ok but the bathroom window was broken out and the shower drain had a piece of metal sticking up. My closet at home was bigger than the bathroom. I took the free shuttle yesterday to the othier Best Western across the bay. Nicerer hotel, nice beach and a lobby full of ------ off people complaining about there rooms and service. Went to take the shuttle back to our hotel and it wouldn't start. Abouit 20mins later it was started but no A/C. If you stay here walk from the airport to the hotel it took 2mins in the cab and cost $24.00 plus tip. I would stay in Redhook because ther are places to eat and go to. If you stay here there is nothing but runway.

Good Luck The Zoebisch Family

We just returned from a week cruising the British Virgin Islands! It was wonderful!! We started our stay at the Best Western Caribe 3 days and 2 nights before we were to board our boat. I think our standard bedroom (with queen bed) used to be a big bedroom that they cut in half! It was very normal in every way...but you had to squeeze by the bottom of the bed to get to the patio! Looked and felt a little small!! However, everything worked (except the safe). It was clean and came with a small refrigerator and coffee maker. We were not in the room during the day, but evenings were fine because the a/c worked well. The restaurant was ok for one night...and the bar was fine!! Couldn't hear the airplanes takng off or landing unless you were sitting outside!! All in all...I would say it is a ok place to stay for a few days before a charter, after a trip, or for a few nights in a pinch! The staff was friendly and helpful...the price was right for a couple of nights...and if your expectations are correct...it will work just fine!!!

I see it was three years ago I posted my first review of this hotel. We just got back from staying there again. They are doing remodeling on this property. Thank goodness they put us in the farest building on the property. Room 603 was a smoking room, right on the water, very secluded, and wonderful. Not many guests at all in this building. We felt like we had the place to ourselves. The view was wonderful. It felt like we were right next to the cruise ships that entered the Crown Bay Marina. My husband said it was a 1/4 mile walk from the lobby/restaurant to our room, but it was worth it. The room was basic. Had a coffee maker and fridge. But it was clean and big in size. This is not a fancy hotel, nor would I consider it run down. The pool area was redone since our last visit there. Two of the other builings were being remodeled during our visit. For the $99 a night we paid for that room, I was very pleased. Light breakfast still is included with the price of the room. Will certainly go back again.
