We spent 6 days on St. John and had to leave our villa one day before we left the islands so we decided to stay on St. Thomas for our last night. There were 6 of us in 3 rooms. The rooms were not ready at check in time and we had to wait. We were told we could leave our luggage in the luggage room while we shopped in town. The luggage room was literally a storage closet with old furniture and no lock so anyone could go in or out. When we could check in, we had reserved the "cottage" units-suites with king size beds on/near the beach and pool. We got 2 rooms with double beds that were so small that you couldn't walk between the furniture. The suitcases didn't even fit in the closet, so we had to put them in front of the bathroom door and climb over them to get in the bathroom. The third room had a king size bed and some walking room, but wasn't much better overall. We were not in the cottages but in the main building. To get to the rooms, we had to carry all of our luggage up the flights of stairs as there was no elevator. When we got there, the rooms were dirty and you had to flip a switch on the wall to turn on the electricity to the room. The first room had a cockroach the size of my fist and the safe wouldn't work because it had "low batteries". Our friends called the front and were told there were no extra batteries and they'd write about the cockroach in "the book." The second room had no flushing toilet and they were told it would also go in "the book" and someone would look at it in several hours or the next day. The third room had a broken safe and a clock that flashed 12:00 no matter what you did to try to set it. You guessed it, both requests went "in the book." Our room also had shampoo and lotion bottles that were 2/3 empty when we got there and 3 towels. All the other rooms had 4 towels so we asked for another since there are no pool towels. We were told we'd be charged for our 4th towel. Then we asked for a cab to be called to go to dinner and were told that they couldn't get cabs to come there. The woman at the front desk told us that if we did somehow get a cab we should not pay more than $4/person because that was supposed to be the regulated rate. Since we couldn't get a cab, the woman at the front desk had her friend drive us in her personal Explorer filled with her personal stuff. The friend charged us $6/person and even though he promised to come get us after the meal, he went home early and we were on our own. The room next to ours was "under construction" and had a shower curtain instead of a sliding glass door. The balconies were not private and anyone could walk into any balcony or see into any room, even on the second floor. The next morning we went to Fajitas for breakfast, but after 30 minutes, we hadn't even been asked if we wished to order drinks (3 other tables were full in the restaurant) and no one even bothered to say they'd ever be with us, so we left without eating. Then we went to the pool where tiles are missing/broken. As others have said, the "beach" isn't really a beach and both the pool and the beach are across the parking lot from the actual hotel. Finally, it was time to check out and go to the airport. Since there was no cab service, we had to walk. The walk was short, but we had to walk down the flight of stairs in the hotel with our luggage and then down another flight at the airport. It was strange to walk ourselves to the airport but at least we got there...not sure the Carib Beach would have ever gotten us there! Then, once we got to the airport, I realized I forgot my prescription sunglasses in the hotel. It was time to go, so I called them the next day and was told that it was their policy that they don't ship anything, so I'd have to come get them if I wanted them back! Sure, I'll just swing over from Minnesota on my way home from work! They were $300 sunglasses since they were prescription! I wish we had gone home a day early rather than spent a day at the Carib Beach. Let's just say it wasn't one more day in paradise!
