“More like a 3-star hotel with indifferent service”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed February 21, 2013

It has taken me a year to write this review, and I wish I had written it sooner just in case it helps to warn someone away from spending so much money on an average hotel. First, the positives: the club staff was excellent in every way, and the club lounge was the only part of the hotel that was exceptional. If I wanted to stay indoors, snack and drink all day with a beautiful view, I would have loved my stay. But we wanted to enjoy the beach -- which was small, crowded, and had no shade at all unless you rented a cabana for $300/day (after spending $1200/night on a suite, should you have to do that for some shade?). The constant motor boat fumes and noise ruined whatever tranquility you might find after fighting for a lounge chair. The restaurants were fine, but nothing more than that. The service in general (at the hotel other than in the club lounge, at the restaurants, on the beach) was indifferent and sloppy. The rooms and the buildings overall were sorely in need of renovation. At half the price, I would not return.

“Beautiful property- great stay!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 18, 2013

My husband and I just returned from 5 night stay for my 40th birthday during Valentine's and we had a wonderful trip! We were nervous prior to our trip, after reading several disappointing previous reviews, however I can't say enough nice things about our recent stay. We did stay in the Club level in the Eugenia building and perhaps that had a lot to do with it. But here are the highlights: the hotel grounds were beautiful and in an excellent location on the East End near the ferry to visit St John. The grounds were well kept and constantly being groomed. The check in process was smooth and Jenna made a great first impression. Our room was comfortable and spacious and our balcony overlooking the beach area was amazing. The Club level staff was outstanding and everyone was very friendly and helpful each and every time. Kathryn and Shirley were standouts and we were happy to see their smiling faces throughout the day. The infinity pool was beautiful with the view over to St John. The beach was very nice and the staff for chair set up, drink service and water activities were all great. My husband had made prior arrangements with the hotel to surprise me for my birthday and valentines day and the hotel sent up a bottle of champagne and cake one day and rose petals and a gift basket another which was a really nice touch! The food in the Club level was great and creative and we ate breakfast and several lunches there plus cocktails. We ate most of our dinner meals off site on St John or St Thomas, but we did eat at Great Bay Lounge one night and that wasn't great- service was spotty and our food was just average but expensive. Otherwise it was an amazing trip, great property, and outstanding staff. Very pleased and would definitely recommend!

Room Tip: Would definitely recommend the Club Level. Worth every penny!!

“Had a great time at The Ritz! Be prepared to drop some CA$H”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 18, 2013

The Ritz Carlton in St Thomas is a beautiful property. The Service is exceptional with every staff member going out of their way to make you feel important. The views are amazing, you can see St John. It's really a tropical paradise. I liked the fact that non-motrzed water toys are included.

The only downside is the price. The resort fee on top of the already crazy expensive room charge is over $50 per day. You will drop $100 just for lunch and dinner is even more. To save a few bucks, visit in the off season.

Room Tip: Ocean view. Be sure to request anything other than the first floor. The resort consist of multiple t...

“Perfect weekend getaway!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 18, 2013 via mobile

My two daughters, my mom and I all loved our getaway to the Ritz Carlton St Thomas for my mom's 80th birthday! The staff were friendly and welcoming and gave exceptional service. They made my mom feel special and celebrated; Melanie, Viola, Luke and Daniel were standouts! The resort is beautiful with gorgeous grounds and views of Great Bay and St John. We especially enjoyed kayaking, snorkeling, the infinity pool and lunch at Sails. Would love to return!!!

“A wonderful stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 16, 2013

We had never stayed at a R-C property before, and were blown away by the pampering and attention to detail. We had an oceanview, club level room on the second floor of the Freesia building, Room 274. This was the last one in line, close to the watersports end of the beach. Fressia also hosts the club lounge. The club level upgrade added to our stay. We are not drinkers, so it was not the bargain it would have been, but we had a short stay and wanted maximum relaxation. We found that the food offerings were adequate, without needing to dilne elsewhere, which helped maintain our relaxation buzz. We went to bed each night satisfied, but not stuffed.

We did have dinner at Bleuwater one night, and enjoyed it. The snapper was excellent.

We never plumbed the depths of the service the Ritz was willing to provide. We had stopped for some bottled water before we arrived, and never finished it. Every night there was water left near our beds, and dispensers of citrus infused ice water were all over the resort. Our trusty Hobie Cat was always ready, off resort towels were available for excursions, there was some snorkeling to be had off the beach, and I snagged a hammock on the beach, which made my trip. The concierges were always making sure we had plans for good times, and helping us when we needed ideas. They were quite willing to arrange reservations to outside restaurants or excursions. The last night, we spent time at the computer station checking in and printing boarding passes. When we got to our room, we found a form asking for our flight information. The hotel would have arranged everything and had our boarding passes ready at breakfast.

The staff worked very hard, and may have made an occasioal slip, but nothing that marred our visit. I am sure that some of them were having bad days or feeling down, but they never let on. Even the landscaping staff were polite and cheerful, and the grounds were lovely.

We may never be able to afford this resort often, but would gladly stay again if we could.
