“Makeover Needed”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 29, 2011

Alright, the views...stunning, the food....tasty, the restaurant...dated. If I'm going to spend $$$$ on dinner, I don't want bar/pool traffic in the background. The carpet looked 30 years old. In fact, Blackbeard in general has seen better days. They're lucky the have a good view....until a rehab, I'll spend my $$$$ elsewhere. If you want the view, go have a drink at the bar, walk down to the pool and call it a night.

“Simply, divine..........”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 27, 2011

The Banana Tree Grille, has always been one of my favorite restaurants in St Thomas....We tend to go there to celebrate special occassions, times of the year, etc. We hadn't been since New Years Eve, and I had heard there were a few changes on an already perfect menu. All's I can say is DIVINE !!! Started out with the house must have, The gorganzola loaf, with melted gorganzola drizzled over a loaf of fabulous crusty bread....then, another Banana Tree staple, "The Wedge". While many people try to duplicate the wedge, it's the homemade dressing and crispy pancetta that goes on the wedge to make it extra special. I could of stopped there, but no. The Duet of Duck was calling me.......Duck can be hit and miss sometims, but figured, why not? I must tell you, it was fabulous. So moist, so delish it was not covered with any fance sauces....just melted in your mouth. Now, i decided rather than a regular "vegetable side" to try something new....Goat Cheese Glazed Roasted Potatos. Can you stand it? One bite in to those potatos and i didn't know a better taste sensation....the potatos were a nice "wedge" size that were kinda roasted, so they were a little crispy on the outside and soft in the inside with that wonderful goat cheese glaze....you absolutely MUST try these. At that point, i just wanted to go home and relax but no. Liz, the Owner, said she was playing around with a new dessert, something "chocolatey". So, there it was in front of us and before you know it, it was gone. I believe she called it "Candybar Cake" ?? Chocolate/coconut, caramel, it just melted in to your mouth...you didn't need more than just a little peice. Again, service was top notch....Christopher, our server is great...always comes to your table at the right time, my wine glass was never empty....the attention to detail, spot on.......and the restaurant seemed to be buzzing with happy customers. The bartendar is newer, James....although we were going to miss the old one, James is a keeper ! The thing that i've always liked about the Banana Tree is, you feel like you are dining with family. PLEASE make sure you try this restaurant if you are looking for fine dining.....It's the way dining should be.......good enough that you should tell all your friends !!!

“Great food, great view and service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 14, 2011

What else do you need. It is nice enough for a nice diner or casual enough to enjoy a simple meal. Food was good, especially the mahi. Sit and watch the ships leave in the evening. Best part, in our opinion.

“Wonderful view and delicious meal”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 29, 2010

While another nearby restaurant, may have 10/10 view of Charlotte Amalie, The far superior meal at Bananna tree combined with the 9/10 view makes the a clear winner. The menu was excellent. We had the signature Bananna tree filet and it was melt in your mouth delicious. Also the stuffed grouper was also excellent. While the grouper came with rice and vegetable side the steak meal was disappointingly a la carte. We did choose the onion ring as a side and they were quite good. It might be better for the owner to include a side with the dish. Im not sure why it comes alone as it does. They also have a daily freshly made ravioli appetizer dish. Ours was spinach and crab meat with a hint of fennel. Again, excellent.

Dessert , a house made bananna cheescake was was good but not to die for.

Our waiter was very good and the wait time for food was not long at all.

This place is definitly in the expensive end with meal, 2 drink, dessert range is about 70-75 dollars.

As with nearby hillside restaurant, Mafolie, get a seating near sunset or when the cruise ships are heading out to maximize your experience. We got to watch 3 ship backout as darkness fell and it was a cool sight

If you are not in a hurry the Bluebeard resort pool bar is a great place to enjoy a bit of music and an after dinner drink.

“THE BEST FOOD & SERVICE IN THE ISLAND”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 20, 2010

My family has been coming to St. Thomas from NJ for 20 years, we have owned in St Thomas for 9 years as a second home, and have never stayed on the island without having dinner at Banana Grill at least once a visit. I love their duck duet, and their gorgonzola bread is out of this world. Chris is the greatest waiter ever, personable, charming and wants his customers to enjoy. Whoever gave him a bad rap before is way off base. When my son was 4, Chris gave him his puka shell necklace, and at 6 my son wrote about Chris in first grade, what a great guy he was (and still is!). My son is 16 now, and Chris is still his guy. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!
