“Good educational site . . .”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 14, 2014

Fort Frederik, 1760, located in Frederiksted, VI is actually much better than the Christiansted fort. Fort Frederik has educational displays while the Christiansted fort has nothing. Learn about the island, slavery, and the history of its inhabitants. A good way to spend an hour or two.

“In need of an update”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 18, 2014

It needs updating, the walls outside are enough to put you off with the paint flaking off. The pictures on the walls are difficult to see as they are behind glass but there is too much reflection. The information is good but could be better presented.

“Makes you think”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 8, 2014

The Fort is right by the main quay so its an obvious place to look at. The outside is unappealing and looks run down but don't be deceived by that initial view. You make your own tour with a rudimentary guide sheet but that a good thing as you can discover the fort and exhibition at your own pack. Access is everywhere and no one stops you wandering in and out of the rooms, features and exhibits. The colonial living rooms on the first floor in the main building contrast sharply with the grim relics of the slavery past in the exhibition. But this contrast makes you think about how the whole island and many like it were developed and survive to be a tourist destination. Economic and cultural values may have changed but this dose of reality is worth the visit.

“Worth it for story of st croix and location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 25, 2013

We found it very interesting and learned a lot through the displays. Had some excellent furniture display on top. Great setting, liked again that it was open 12/24 and 12/26 vs some other restaurants, attractions or other activities. We went on 12/24 without any cruise ships in port and had it to ourselves. Bathrooms were nicely kept, I thought the people working there friendly and keeping it up fairly well. Only one space listed as gallery was closed. You can do this as short or as long as you want but if really want to take it all in allow for more than an hour. $3 fee. Yes it's a little worn but expect since refinery closed funds are tight.
